My advice is do what you can to come up with all of the money and complete the transaction as soon as possible.
While a lawsuit will probably not spawn from a $1,000 deal on a pickup the law is exactly the same as if you were buying something more significant.

Say for instance you were selling a house. Once you sign the agreement that has the name of each buyer and a contracted price and a time frame the deal is done. Yes, home purchases have all sorts of little intricate details and outs but once money is in escrow it is there. You can't just decide to sell to somebody else once you are in contract, that is the purpose of a contract!

Tomorrow is the day, I can't wait to see what happens, I'm probably about half as excited as SCHRUM!

I agree, that is what I was trying to say. There COULD be a valid lawsuit over a deposit on a $2000 truck, but no laywer is realistically going to take the case. You could go to small claims court, but at that point the truck is long sold and all you will get back is the deposit. A house is a completely different deal. There are professionals and legal contracts in force from the moment you lay down earnest money and even before they accept your offer. There is generally enough value to sue over and you can probably find a laywer that will take the case.

I'm rooting for him too, don't get me wrong. But in a $2000 truck, it isn't a done deal until you pay in full and take posession.

Looks like the whole deal hangs on the Cougar buyer. Heard from him?

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

I cleaned the cougar out.Battery's on the charge. He's going to be here tomorrow morning at 8 am or 9 am, He told me if plans fall through on the U-haul he has back up plans and he knows how important getting this truck is to me..Everyone keep your fingers crossed..I got in touch with a Notary and found out my family is great friends with them, and told the Truck people everything that is going to be done and she told me see you Saturday afternoon..So hopefully everything goes as planned

Found Pawpaw's old winchs and chains he kept in his Trucks floor board and the small box that the chains were kept in.

Major Question...Tomorrow when I bring it home, can someone give me a good idea on what I should do to it

Clean it up really good, take GOOD DETAILED pictures, and post them on here before you start tearing into it. These guys will be able to help you out and tell you what it needs, but they have to see it first.

Off the top of my head -- Make sure all paperwork is complete so you have full legal ownership.

Start making a list of everything that you know needs attention (such as buying & installing a transmission). Add to the list every time you notice something -- cross items off the list when they are finished.

Clean everything, top to bottom, inside & out and underneath. Check / change belts & hoses as needed.

Check, fill, or change all fluids. Grease anything that has a zerk. Check the brakes for proper operation and for lining thickness.

Make sure all electrics work and fix anything that doesn't work. Battery connections should be clean & tight, with no corrosion.

Gotta be more but that'll keep you busy for a while...

Find a job to make some money to spend on parts ,LOL. You will quickly learn how these old trucks suck the money right out of your pockets .

This doesn't sound good.... if you have a reservation to get a U-haul trailer you get it, how would it fall through?

Whats the deal with the notary? Is that a requirement in your state for selling a vehicle? I've never heard of that before.

Re: Found me a possible truck 1971 gmc swb

WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL NEWS

Called him and he was talking to the U-Haul people on getting the Trailer

Like if he couldn't get a U-haul, that's what I meant
and Yes It is

also Great news, the Cougar runs and drives !!!!
I charged the battery up poured some gas into the carb and cranked right up and pulled it right across the road at my Grandmothers..Enjoyed the little ride..

Talked to the Owner, going at 12:15 to go pick it up .

In most states a title must be signed by seller and buyer in front of a notary.

Small claims court. No lawyer needed, just present the facts. 9 times out of 10 the seller will settle up rather than have it on the court records. A deposit is a sale.

It's about time! I figured you got the Cougar ready to go once you found this truck and posted about it,since that is what all this hinges on.

Ha ha...me too! I've been seeing "last page" all week and just noticed it is 11 pages. I think that's a record for a possible truck. This deal has to go through. If anything goes wrong, just say "But,there's 11 pages about me buying it" Seriously, good luck. I have all along. Not being hard on you. You won't learn how to do things right if no one speaks up when you're doing it wrong. That's what many have been doing...for your sake
