Depends on if the wife wants to come. If not, the earlier the better for me. I'll give you a call after I find out for sure.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

Glad you found some doors in decent shape.
They don't look too bad in the pics. See much more once you sand the paint down to see what is covered up.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

That's always the fun part, Sammy. See if I scored or flopped.

Kyle came by this evening and lended his talents to the start of the drip rail removal. I do have to say, Kyle is rather talented. Looking great.

You know there are lots of pics!

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

Also received the compressor I bought on ebay. Bid on it the night before I found the compressor, bags, and tank. And noone outbid me. It looks A LOT smaller than the Viair, but was supposed to be better than it. Hmm...Did I mention it is very loud???!!!

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

Bobbo, 2 things for you. First of all, how do these cabs actually do without the drip rails? Does the rain run right in the door gaps since there is no drip rail anymore? And second, if you aren't going to use that compresor, I might be interested in it.

I would imagine you do get more water in the door gaps, there will be a small lip on the front above the windshield but the sides will be smooth. Kyle suggested installing the regular door seal along the inside of the truck as well as a seal on the door itself to help seal the water. Will know for sure once it is all done. This is a first for me which is why I am leaving the body surgery up to a more experienced guy. As for the compressor, I am not going to use it. If you are interested in it, I will sell it for $100 plus the ride.

I don't remember exactly the cam size, it was a step up from a RV cam. brad_man72 has it (which is who I got it from), you can ask him about it. I don't think he is going to reuse it in the motor. He probably can give you some better specs on it.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

Looking good. With slightly more than 50 days till spring time to start installing stuff rather than removing. Otherwise your going to be hard pressed making any apperances this spring.
Nice having Kyle's talents and a warm place for surgery. Any luck on the engine/ tranny search yet?

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

I know! I have found a 6.0L motor, 4L80 trans, wiring, and ecu in arizona for $2600 plus $205 shipping. Less than 80,000 miles. Getting the cash up for that soon.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

I am beginning to really dislike all this grinding. But it needs to be done...more pics. There is quite a bit of bondo on the passenger door lower rear corner. About a 1/4 inch worth...i thought there was the way the trim hole was missing there. Driver door appears to be good but haven't started it yet. More on the cab and some random pics cause I love them!

We were extremely slow at work and it is such a nice day, 45 degrees! So I took the afternoon off, rolled the truck out of the garage, and did some more grinding...
