Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

An original marked SER R 66 . Both my new ones are different I have a picture of the NOS right side it says SER R 71 with the box and part number

I’m thinking since they ran from the early 50s to the Square's they just use whatever was on hand

My RH bracket has the mounting holes in different locations than yours, and you can see the "R" stamped in it. Maybe yours has an "L" stamped on the side facing the rear of the truck.

OK. I had to look. No markings on the Driver's Side bracket. On the forward face of the Passenger Side bracket, there is a mark. Could be an angled ''V'' or ''7'' or ''L''. In daylight, I'll rub some graphite in the mark and shoot a pic.

Friday night, in Deer Season.
Actually, Deer Season is in the Fall. This truck was a late winter/early spring child. Also, that would have a lot more pull with a Michigan crew. For Fremont, in the Bay Area, it was probably tickets to the Dead at the Fillmore.
Anyway, with concentric rings [Fresnel lens] no one noticed for 54 years.

OK. Here's the shot. I'm not sure if the graphite trick worked. [I'm not Sherlock Holmes] The graphite stuck to the whole surface since I sprayed it with PB Blaster to loosen the mounting nuts the other day.

It's right by the pigtail hook. At about 200X you can just make out a capital L.

Here's the part number for the Fresnel lenses. The parts catalog lists them for 66-68, but superceded by the version with the horizontal lines.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

The backup lights and brackets were missing from my truck when I bought it. I acquired a set of OE brackets from member 396ci down in Modesto. I don't know what year truck they were from. I wonder if they didn't start making unique R and L brackets until they started using the lenses with the horizontal lines.

That would make sense.
I guess the parallel line style also matches the look of the MY '69 Parking Light lenses.

That pic of the Fresnel lenses, p/n GM5958622, is it of items in your possession, or just an internet/Spacebook pic?

Only '66, '67, '68? No wonder there are no back up lights or lenses for those early years in the catalogs.

The parallel line type must be cheaper to make. Less plastic, and thinner.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Those Fresnel lenses in the pic are in my possession and are installed on my truck now. Here are the lines from the parts catalog. Looks like 5958622 (Fresnel) might have been from 66-70, and then 5961260 (parallel) were from 71-75.

That is a much better look, IMO. I wish you joy of them.
Maybe I'll post a WTB for the Fresnel B/U Lenses [NOS]. We've seen what 50 years exposure to the AZ Sun does.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Picked up this AM/FM truck radio for a song. Running it through its paces before installing it. So far, so good. It is missing the AM and FM inserts behind the slider, and the original lens was replaced with a blank piece of plexiglass.

Had a new fuel pump installed - ordered a set of Jeep Wrangler headlamps, and ordered new LEDS for the parking lights and the headlamps.

Yeah. About an inch out from the hook at 11 o'clock.

Think I have a warranty claim?

Probably not, but you might interest the FBI in working on their data recovery repertoire. They've probably not done a rubbing on a backup light bracket, yet.

That's a pretty specialized skill. I'll wait for a better offer from the NSA.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I acquired a functional truck AM/FM radio recently. The AM/FM band selector switch has a little string attached to it that rotates a drum that has both the AM and FM frequencies displayed on it. I broke the string changing bands. I ordered some replacement string on eBay designed for this application and installed it today. The drum is operational again. I had to fabricate a new little clip to crimp the ends of the string together because the original one fatigued and broke when I bent it open. It's missing the AM and FM labels, so I've got some on order. Here's a video of the drum in action.

https://youtu.be/V9JgVtNmHLM

When I first received the radio, the lens appeared to be missing the Delco script, but I discovered the lens was installed upside down so it was hidden.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I installed the caster mod and the bump steering mods this weekend on my 67. Had to trim some off the back side of the A arm and on the bump steer mod I cut my adjusters and added about 3-3/4" to make them reach the heim joint. Now I have to give it the new alinement and I will be done again
Thanks everyone for all the info on these mods.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I did my alinement today and found I have 9.5 deg caster on the left side and 11 deg on the right side. Camber is .25 on both sides. I cant go less on the caster on the right so I mite increase the driver side. Anyone out there see a problem with them being 1.5 deg different?
Well I could I guess, we will see tomorrow.

Since it’s raining I decided to soak some parts in Rust 911 very impressed with the two day soak . I intentionally left half out to see the results .

Should be easier to take apart . The vent widow would hardly move prior to soaking
