Got the column put together --- just a sneak peek at what's going in later, going to put the stock steering wheel on for now while build is still underway.

Staring on my re-wiring....I did get a Painless harness to do this.

When I unpacked the box I thought "uh oh"..... :-(

It seemed VERY complicated at first. But I just followed the directions and went step by step so far.

A couple things you should know about the Painless system that I didn't know....

1. it's not complete. You need to assemble some of the connectors yourself as the configuration depends on the year and style of truck that you have.

2. you need to buy some real wire crimpers to do this work

3. you need LOTS of patience

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and has a Happy New Year!!

Just got my gauges mounted, using one of Jeff's bracket kits. It has taken a few nights to do (very fiddly work!!) and I used JB Weld for the glue b/c I like the way it sets up better than other epoxies.

I also used a 4-point bracket for the small gauges instead of just 2 point, just to make sure they stay in their spots. All bolts have blue thread locker too to keep them solid.

Gauge angles will get tweaked a bit more once the seat is in.

I bought a Painless 30302 gauge install harness ---- absolutely necessary for me because I want to be able to take the cluster out if I need to easily.

Instructions with the kit are pretty basic --- again all the wires are not used so I took photos of what way I think they should be plugged in...we'll see if it's right!

Thanks Kyle, yup I was working on it the last few days. Just call me if you need help on your motor.

Went to the wreckers today, picked up some stuff I was missing:

- air box & MAF sensor (I bought a new one already though) just for now until I decide what air intake I have room for
- some connectors
- I found a clock out of approx a 1977....never seen one of these before! but it is missing the time adjustment thingy

Brown Santa (UPS) showed up today to, thanks Justin from Scott's Hot Rods!! for the quick turn-around on my order...will unpack it all tomorrow!

Noticed some sand-through to the base coat (pearl was sanded off) when I was in the cab the other day. Am going to touch that up tomorrow.

As usual, took a few hours to clean up and mask things off in order to paint for 10 minutes!!

Ok, finished painting for now. Turned out good in the spots that needed it.

Started on my brakes yesterday...will post part numbers if I remember for the wheel bearings; they are a larger size in the front and tapered as well. Seemed I couldn't get the part guys to give me the correct set if their life depended on it, so I finally took in the old set with the seal to get them matched up.

Got both fronts done today...had some problems with the idler arm and needed to replace it but it got done.

Starting on the rear axle & disc brakes now...

Been working on my diff this week....long story.

Opened up the 12 bolt transplant I'm going to put on the truck, found out it had 2.56 gears! Never, ever have seen that ratio in a 12 bolt before. Must have been on some type of van.

So tried to get the bearings off the gov-lock, would not come off no way.

Thought about it for a day, since I needed to change the gearing anyways, decided to put in a new Auburn Posi with 3.73 gears.

Was going to have the place do it that did my '98 in 2010, but they quoted me $800 more than what they did it for last year!

So, decided I would do it myself. My brother Dave came over today to help me set the backlash and spacers, actually went okay but it took a long time to get done.

Started on the rear disc conversion tonight, got one side done no problem.

The other side I'm going to have to shim a bit to center the rotor in the caliper but got tired and quit for tonight.

They are stamped left hand / right hand too so that helped!!

1. Where did you get the steering wheel?

2. Who is this Jeff that makes those gauge brackets?


You think your going to be hitting any shows/meets this summer?

I got the steering wheel from Summit Racing, I order alot of stuff from those guys.

I'm not really planning on any shows other than the Reynolds Museum Weekend Show & Shine....I went last year and it was REALLY laid back and actually fun!

I plan on getting my truck club going this year, last year I just put it on the backburner with everything going on.

I'll let you know about the window, I haven't decided for sure what I'm going to do with the windows yet.

Got the other side on, took off the old 10 bolt axle (going to scrap it b/c I banged my shin on it hard while loading it into the back of my truck!)

Put the 12 bolt on and hooked up the shocks & sway bar again, might do brake lines later tonight if I feel like it.

My my its coming along. my 12bolt from under swb came the same way. one wheel wonder wuth 2.56s and a 305. Fot great mileage until i started swapping in hot rod parts. Excelent progress. Youre really getting it done!

What brakes are you using? Obviously Wilwood calipers, but where did you get the brackets and rotors from?

What size wheel and tire is that?

Thanks guys for the kind words....nice to know there are people rooting for you! :-)

Rims are 22", tires are 305's (which are too wide for the fenders, will go to a 275 or 285 once everything is bolted on.

Wilwood brake kit came from my good pal Justin (I've called him lots in the past week!!) at Scott's Hot Rod's who is a vendor here on the forum.

Best price by far on the complete kit, but if you want parking brakes as well, buy the cables from him at the same time as the rest of the kit as stock C10 cables will NOT fit these rear brakes.

As mentioned, got the Lokar brake cable kit today for the e-brakes and fabbed it up. Will adjust later once the brakes are bled and set up.

PLEASE NOTE, my pictures from last week of the rear calipers are wrong --- I put them on the wrong side by mistake (I read the LH / RH stamps that were on the brackets and they were wrong or meant for something else).

Rear calipers should be on the "rear" side of the wheel as this picture shows.
