Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

$15,000 sounds more than fair, actually cheap for all that work!

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Randall, I am getting closer to getting started on my crew cab project, I know you have the 1 pc. rockers (inner and outer), but are you planning on selling your upper door/roof channel pieces, and selling the pieces for the pillar? You can pm me if you want. Trevor

So I broke it down for him, I told him to pull out his calculator and asked him to multiply 200 hours times $75.00 per hour and he came up with $15,000.00, oh did I forget to mention that I am supplying the suburban and pickup truck and all other materials.

For those of you that truly understand what it takes to build one of these cabs I appreciate you. Thank you.

i just want to say im sorry for other peoples incompitents. that guy obviously doesnt deserve a crew cab if he would call a man with your talents and insult him like that.

Man, I absolutely live your truck. The color combo is perfect. So is the rest of the truck. Great work.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

when i told my wife i wanted one there was the requisite "how much?" i told her i had to sell my jeep and then some! she said "$15k? thats a lot" i told her that there was no way in hell i could do that work in 150(or at all) hours considering a $100/hr charge rate so it seemed fair to me. and i guessed you were spending more hours and charging a lesser rate. its easier if i give her nice round numbers to work with!

i used to work in the custom automotive world doing offroad stuff. i know how it goes with people who assume your work should be free.

for that striker plate you could save youself some time with a CNC cutout. we have a plasma and a 5 axis waterjet at work. if you are interested i could get a quote for cutting one if you have a drawing. or if its is just a sketch i can draw it in autocad.

About 90% done with the B Pillar, this thing is built like a brick *^%$* house. Plan on hanging hinges on it tomorrow. Then will be moving to passenger side to do rockers and headers.

Yeah no doubt I could definitely use the help. I would like to find a couple key people that have superior skills and to do things my way. Unfortunately I live in the state of Washington and if you are not aware of the fact the state of Washington is one of the most unfriendly business communities in the country. I can afford the one limb to the guy I hire but my other 3 limbs I would like to keep and not give to the state. We are looking at moving over to business friendly Idaho. Thank you for comments.

Trevor, thank you for your questions I have received numerous requests to produce and sell my crewcab specific parts. I produce these pieces specifically to build cabs in my shop, I'm not able to supply the demand so I am not going to supply at all. The amount of R&D that goes into each piece most people would not be willing to pay for anyway not to mention shipping and the upfront investment that I would have to make. If things change I will let you know.

I have been considering the same move too and for the same reasons. Starting & running a small business here is no easy task and the taxes don't help.

There was a segment on 60 minutes on taxes there and of course the governor said they want a new tax on the rich for education and there is nothing they can cut. Seems like education is the new guilt word but it has been used for ever to get more money but it seems like the tax money never goes where it is supposed to and they never have enough no matter what.

Illinois is worse we always have governors that serve 2two terms one in the capital and one in prison.

Re: 67-72 Chev Crewcab Build

Well guys as you can see I built this truck to use it. Went to the westside of Washington and acquired a fifth wheel that is in incredible shape (looks like it just came off the showroom floor circa 1986). I will be converting it to a toy hauler/swap meet parts carrier. Its main purpose is to slide a crewcab into the back for both delivery as well as display at car shows and swap meets.

Looks like you might have to put a little beef in the back for the weight, Maybe a dually for the next one.
