Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

How did you figure out the correct driveline angles? I found out the hard way just how tricky that can be.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Well all I've done is lowered and centered the hanger bearing.

Other than that I am going on straight trial and error.

I will give it a trial and hope for no errors.

Care to give any insight?

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

I generally eliminate the carrier bearing and use a one piece driveshaft. If your angles are off you will know it the first time you drive it at highway speed.[URL="http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Driveline-101.shtml
This is a link to a very helpful site.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

My intention is to get the truck finished and then see how it goes.

I foresee a power/drive line change in the future to something diesel...

With that in mind, I took the less expensive route of shortening the second half of my two piece drive shaft. It was 150.00 to have it shortened.

One piece was going to be in the neighborhood of 450.00. While I am not against spending the money for a better product, I really did not want a expensive drive shaft for my mantle if I decide to go to a different power plant / transmission.

So I will have my fingers crossed and hopefully it all stays together and does not vibrate the death out of me.

I will check out that link though.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

You should be OK. My biggest problems resulted from shortening frames by 10 feet or more. I had to change the wedges on top of the springs to bring the front of the rearend up.

That has to feel damn good seeing it spin the hubs on its own power again.

Very much so... I bought this truck this past December, drove it home and that is it. Moved it around the yard a few times until I took the motor and drive line out for paint.

I am looking forward to having everything ready for final paint.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Came home and got things degreased and ready to buff up and paint on the rear half of my truck.

Hopefully I can have this done for the weekend, as it looks like I wont be here again... ha.

Its cleaner!
