Anyone running a BBC with the crossmember mod??? I have some interest in Tracy Focht's BBC he has for sale here on the board. I am not sure what problems I will have with the clearance as far as headers firewall steering etc etc.

What crossmembers work?

I've been thinking about doing this X-member drop on my truck but can't afford the down time, its my daily driver. I've got a X-member from a 80's one ton and wanted to know if anyone knows if it can be used for my truck, it looks the same. I know the control arms are different but the bolt holes look to be the in the X-member look to be in the same spots, so could I notch it and put it in my truck with my control arms?

I wish that I had been following this thread from day 1. Its got the wheels in my head turning now.

So this is an alternative to bodydropping? Also, for you DIYers, what welder are you using, stick or mig?

Dude, it is posted on my site. It is a static 1.5" (or more) drop without alignment problems. We used a Mig welder.

I have no progress "pics"...but I finally got my a-arms back from Turners. I had them narrowed 1-1/2" on each side. Now I can finally get going on the rack and pinion too. I also got a bigger step notch for the rear, so I get to re-do the notch in the rear also...

I really dont beleive I will ever do any more business with Turners. Bill is a great guy but the turn around time is the worst I have ever experienced. I have been waiting on some parts for 3 months now. I can call his place 100 times and maybe get a answer one time only to here "Its on the way"

Why did you narrow your control arms? I got mine sitting on the ground and will post some pics asap. I can not lay out the front due to my fender wells arent cut yet. I need to figure out my offset and buy my wheels. I will post some pics ASAP!

I narrowed the arms because the only 22's I have seemed to find are 9-1/2 or 10" wide, and I want to have some kind of decent looking ofset instead of a positive offset. Plus, I want to be able to drive it on the ground...with those 20's the wheel and tire was pretty close to my fender lip, and I dont want to trim that off since I have cut all the guts out of the fender as it needs some kind of structure to keep it from flexin' too much...
Turners turn around time isnt the best...he has had his share of bad times.....I was a bit dissapointed in the time it took, but I enjoy the craftmanship of what I have gotten from him. I deffinately am glad that for me, time is not an issue.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Hmmmm.... you'd think that if he's such a "nice guy" as everyone keeps stating, he'd return phone calls (and parts) more promptly.

That's a good way to lose current (and future) customers.

I agree, that's no way to run a business and I understand personal stuff that could be the delay.

OK, I just read this thread (Ok most of it)
I've been toying with the idea of getting into the 2wd bagged truck arena but I wanted to "lay out" with 22s on a '67-'68. So in short keep it up guys!
I've now officially got the I wants for the darkside, once the 4wd sells the hunt will be on for the frame to get started on the build. The info thus far has been very inforimatave.

Well after chasing parts for over a year I have decided today that I will no longer do any business with Turners. I spent over $2000 with him and have bought alot of his parts. I have his front crossmember, tranny crossmember, lower a arms, upper a arms, shock relocaters, and rack and pinion setup. He takes way to long to ship things and does not respond in a timely manner. I could have been done with ALOT more on this truck but have been put far behind because of parts that "have shipped". I sent him a set of 2500# bags about 4 months ago. He was going to be a nice guy and send me some 2600# bags in return. I wasnt to picky at first because hey the guy was doing me a favor?? So atleast I thought. I have never received the bags and cannot get him to call me back. I called him today as I do about 5-6 times everyday and left him a message as that is all i get everytime is a machine. I told him to keep the bags I sent and that I will buy some elsewhere. Long Story short is LESSON LEARNED. I will never deal with a out of town company again if I can do it locally. Good luck to those who have deaings going with Bill Turner. He is a nice guy but his business practice is way off.

That's too bad.

I am about to roll my 84 in the garage, but not for the crossmember drop, but the good ol' "Z". I'll pull the engine too, cause I think I found a 94 Corvette LT1 to swap in place of the motor now.

i feel ya phantom, "Street Beat Customs" did that to me on an order where they never would send the items, they did charge my card though, then told me they could'nt get them, cancelled my order, then had the nerve to charge me a 20% restocking fee on something i never got and they could'nt get either. they said they would correct the 20% mistake for 4 months, then stopped answering the phone and replying to email. i should have learned my lesson the first time i dealt with them when i had to threaten legal action over a 1500.00 escalade conversion that they lost the first time, and tried to roll over on me instead of tracing it down or sending me another order (we're talking about losing a complete frontend and then saying, "sorry mister, we sent it". Street Beat is a "DEADBEAT" when it comes to the customer.
