Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I got the black around the headlights painted and the bezels on. I also got the bumper on. No more rippled bumper. Everything lines up good.

Didn't go for a drive. Pans not leaking. Got it up to temp last night. It got a little wet towards the front where the dust cover is. I think the front seal or the round part of the tranny behind the torque converter with all those bolts may be it. I think I need to clean it real good to make sure. But the pan looks good right now.

I got my new valve cover gaskets from so-cal_speed_shop_of_las_vegas. They hooked me up and I am pleased with their service. Look them up on Ebay!

Me too!

I decided to do some small stuff. I fixed the horn. Turns out that it was missing the spring in the contact. I robbed the contact/canceler from my tilt for Choncho and I'll pick one up for it later. Also both horns were bad. I didn't want to take the old horns off since they are under the extra battery box and I'd need more time for that. So I mounted it to the extra battery box where the clamp goes. I only put one horn on for now. I started to put the other license light on. There was already a hole there and I thought it would go easy but no. My drill got hot and started smoking. I'll tackle it again another day. I swapped the wiper knob out. Checked the cigarette lighter and it works. I did have to vacuum the socket out. It had some tobacco in it.

Hey, was the trans pan gasket you took off and replaced with RTV the same type as the valve cover gaskets? I mean the type with the steel inserts around the bolt holes.

No it was just a thin rubber one that came with the pan.

It's been a while since I've checked in on this truck. Glad to see you got all the title worked out and you're gonna be able to use it. Keep plugging away at it, every little project you complete just makes it that much nicer

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Thanks Andrew. I drove it to work today and it did great. I picked up some more bolts for the valve covers and the two last bolts for the hitch. I forgot to get a 2'' hole saw though to cut in my trailer wiring socket hole. I need to order the heat riser delete. That thing is rattling and getting on my nerves.

Weird thing happened on the way home. I did some errands and was on my street headed home and heard something that sounded like a horn. I tested mine and it worked fine. So I stop and get out and I noticed it was coming from my locking gas cap. It was just whistling away. I pulled up on the rubber seal around it and a big air transfer occurred. Air sucked into the tank then it stopped. I think I may need to vent the tank somehow. Tomorrow I'll put my valve covers on and try to seal the plug on the front of my quadrajet. It just gets a little wet. Not dripping or anything but I want to try to make it stop with this sealant I bought.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I think there is a difference in the gas caps somewhere between 67-72, some are vented. Maybe it's the wrong year cap? Glad to hear you're cruisin', though.
