Re: 52 Project

Do you guys ever do any mindless projects just to get your mind off these frustrating trucks? I have been building a weld table and here are a couple of pictures. we still need to get some material for the top and weld that on. We have a vice and grinder that is going to go on it also so it should be nice once it is all together. It is going to get a coat of POR also just to slick it up a little. I will post finish pictures when I get done. I just needed something that I didn't have to think on...lol

Re: 52 Project

Thanks Guys!!! I was kinda surprised when he got the brakes. I wasn't expecting that....but I am not always in the loop when it comes to buying parts. I am just the monkey that gets to put them on.

I think that table is really going to come out nice when it is finished. The best part is we make it out of stuff that we already had. We are going to have to buy a piece of plate for the top and he bought a new vise but everything else was left overs from other projects. We are going to paint it with some POR so it should last a long time.

My dad hasn't really been feeling to well lately so I haven't wanted to keep him out in the heat to much. Progress is probably going to be a little slow until it cools off again.

Hope your Dad is feeling better.

And by the way, I sure to like those those Wilwood brakes.

Re: 52 Project

Thanks Kabwe, He is still not up to speed. I don't think he tells me everything but I can tell he is not feeling well. I was down there today and he did a little but I could tell he wasn't into it. It is amazing cause he is almost 75 and still hanging out in the garage and having fun building this truck. I can't wait until we get to drive it.

I did do something I have never down before....safety wire...now all you military guys quit laughing. It is amazing how quick I got the hang of it. We got the rotors and calipers mounted. Also did some messing around with some other misc things like bolting the headers on and getting the dipstick clearance better. Mostly doing the final bolt up of stuff. Here are a couple pictures I took this morning.

Re: 52 Project

Didn't have a lot of time today but got the transmission cooler plumbed. Also got the rest of the crap stripped out of the cab so dad could start getting the interior painted. It is amazing at the number of spot welds holding the gas tank mounts in.

Re: 52 Project

A couple of things have happened....mostly busy with getting my son ready for college...lol.

Dad had a driveshaft built and shot a test panel with the color that we are going to use. Other than that it is just stripping paint off and getting ready for primer...boring stuff.

I need to throw in a plug for the driveshaft guys. We used a local shop that had done some shafts for our race boats years ago and this was our first experience in building one for a automotive application. The company is called Randy's driveshaft. Mike Hite is the shop supervisor and he was very informative and excellent source of information. Having never built one before we took the measurements from the tail shaft to the rear end yoke to Mike. What we didn't realize was that that was not necessarily what he needed. After several phone calls to Mike he got dad set straight. Dad said that he didn't realize that there was so many different aspects of angles and and such that Mike helped him figure out. Anyway these guys hooked up us up with a really nice piece....heavy wall tubing and balanced. I am throwing in a couple of pictures. Here is there web site if anyone is interested...http://www.randysdriveshaft.com/index.html

I bought a 52 c-10 and I am trying to figure out if a 51 GMC fender is interchangeable with the 52 chevy fender. Any help would be appreciated. You can also e-mail me at nathanielmoors@yahoo.com

I am also restoring a 52 chevy c-10. I am curious if a 51 GMC front fender would interchange for the 52 chevy front fender. I will greatly appreciate any info I can get. You can also e-mail me at nathanielmoors@yahoo.com

I am not really sure about the fender fitment, but I would think that they would be interchangable. Hopefully someone will chime in and say for sure.

Re: 52 Project

@5264chevytrucks
I do not think that the Chevy and GMC Front Fenders are interchangeable. I purchased a 49 GMC that I am rebuilding and a 50 Chevy for parts. I noticed that the Chevy fender was shaped a tad different then the GMC and I an thinking it is due to the differences in Grills and Hoods. Chevy also has an extra light below the headlight that GMC does not have. Now I have extra fenders and other parts that I am not using stored under my covered deck!

If I am wrong someone will correct me and I will try putting that fender back in place and make it work!!! Anyone?

Re: 52 Project

Ok we have been busy doing sheet rock in the garage so not much work going on with the truck. We did get the tires and wheels in. They look really cool....at least I think so. We are going to have to send the rear end back to Moser and have them shorted it. I can't remember sizes but I think the fronts were 255 45 17 and the rears are 315 35 17. I had a brain fart in the past few hours since I was down there. We should be back on the truck in a few weeks. Slow but steady progress....lol. Can't seem to post pictures now??? I will later.

Re: 52 Project

everything is looking aweseome bernie. That is some serious meat on the rear tires, that is the same size as the rear of my car.

There is only a handful of tires made that size, what brand did you go with? Mine are Nitto 555r Drag radials

Re: 52 Project

Ben, Those are Nitto....If I remember right they are ZR. I told dad they were Z rated and he said what is that....lol. I told him they were rates for something like 150 mph and he said he wasn't planning on driving that fast to often....what a joker.

Yes that is a Brian extremely rare unit.....you need to come over sometime and check it out. It has been a long time since I have seen you.

Re: 52 Project

Ok here are a few pictures that I took yesterday. The first ones are of the tires and wheels and the last one is the reason the truck is on hold.

Ben, I blew one of the pictures up and it looks like it says 555 on the side wall of it. They are pretty big though.

Re: 52 Project

Your truck is looking good. I was wondering when you get a chance if you could tell me your rear end width and the size of the wheels and backspace. I am looking to put the widest rear wheels on mine, but I am not tubbed or anything. I have not measured my rearend, it is a 10 bolt I think from a Camaro. Thanks

I will have to get back to you on that. I won't be going back down there until next weekend. If I can remember I will through a tape on it and write down the measurements. I know for sure that we are going to have to narow the rear end a little more....I did a sanity check on Sunday and the current configuration is about 2 inches per side to wide. Also I think we are going to have to tub it because the fenders are approx 12 inches wide and the tires are about 12 1/2 inches wide. I will let you know what I find out.
