That Tach looks Baaad, Brother. Like muy malo.
It goes more better faster, too, Yes?

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I had to cannibalize the Battery out of my '68 C/10 Stepside to mount in the '71 GMC.
Yesterday, it was raining cats'n'dogs in Tucson [rare event] and I had to run into town -- wipers and lights on -- for a repair on my Android phone. [While working under the truck last Summer, the lens of the camera got smashed in my hip pocket.]
They finally got the lens part in. So I went down. It would be a 90 minute wait, so I was gonna hit a bookstore to hang.
No Start Gripe.
Just the primordial ''click''. Had to go back inside the store to borrow my phone to call Roadside Rescue.
The phone was fixed before the jumpstart guy got there.
It started right up with the booster.
Before going over today, I read 12.82 VDC on the battery terminals.
I ran the Jimmy into O'RAP and got the System Check. Guy said the Batt was bad.[Bad cell, I guess.] Alt and starter OK. It's about 4 years old, so I will replace it maybe Wednesday.
Until then, it'll run fine with the Pickup's battery.

That bezel cleaned up really good!
Looks amazing!
I would have grabbed the other goodies there too.
-ignition switch and bezel
-cigar lighter and bezel
-factory radio (even if it didn’t work)

There’s probably more...you found a good one there!

That truck is at this place:

https://www.frenchlakeautoparts.com/#CONTACTUS

I had to have the gauge cluster shipped to me. If I had been able to see it in person, then you bet I would have grabbed a bunch of stuff.

I bought a 3spd transmission from there in August of 2020 for my '35 Chevy pickup. Cost $90 to ship it. Now it cost double that if I needed it.

Back when I last replaced my shocks I noticed my mounting studs were pretty stripped. Just got around to replacing them and installing CPP shock supports as well. These were a bear to replace.

Piling up the pieces needed to do a power steering install on my truck. Waiting on new power steering pump and alternator belts along with the new rag joint.

Also working on a custom bumper that will be only as wide as the bed box.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Took truck in for alignment. I had set the new tie rods to match the old ones and put the old shims back after replacing the cross shafts. It probably would’ve been close, but since I had dropped the front close to 2”, everything thing was off. The camber was tilted in and the tires were toed in 1 1/2”.

Covered the old door panels with a vinyl that closely matches the seat...
Not sure if I'm just going to recover the bottom door panel black, or change it to the same as the door panel.

Finished the other door panel today.
Compared to the old chrome panels...I like the covered better with the billet handles.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Today I received my order from LMC. Two 8 foot fleetside 68-72 bedsides. Two lower front bed repair panels. And two door skins.
I am creating a fleetside longbed for my 157" wheelbase C30. So what I have to do is lengthen the bed 30 inches. I already have the front, top rail section, from a rusty bed.
I bought the door skins mainly for the straight beltline at the door handle.
I'm sure that I will need to raise the bed floor a few inches to get it low enough to line up with the cab. Cab has a 3 inch body lift on it already.
I'll start a thread on this when I get into it some.

Yes, really nice work on that steering wheel. I never thought about epoxy to fill the cracks. What paint is used? I would think things like finger rings would mark up a painted wheel pretty easy.

I'm old and fat, so swapping everything out on the front is killing my back. Fronts dropped 4 1/2" and the back is on a 5" springs, I have a 1" rear drop block to install still so it will be a 4.5/6 drop when I'm done.

Hey I'm old and fat too, which is why my truck is up in the garage remaining at stock ride height while I'm down here laying in bed watching HDTV and playing with my smartphone.

What did you do today not on your truck...

...oh not much, just laying here in bed on my fat butt watching some guy on HDTV modify his C/10 heater box and teasing hdrolling for actually accomplishing something.

I couldn't help but notice the Beetle down in the corner of your picture! What can you tell me about that one? My first car was a '70 Beetle. I learned a lot about working on cars, working on it with my Dad.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Yes that wheel turned out real good.

My truck came with the original steering wheel and it was in good shape but I replaced it with a Grant because that's what everybody else was doing.

Then I threw it in the trash because it never occurred to me to keep it.

Oops.
