Well I got lucky yesterday. I was talking to the son of the guy that owns the local lumber yard . He asked me what I was up to and I told him I was installing new tires on my Dually rims by hand. He said that they now have a tire machine over at the lumber yard and that I was welcome to come over and use it if I wanted to. I told him it would be a big help if I could do that. I took my tires and rims over this morning and got them mounted in short order. What a relief!!! I thanked him profusley ... A couple of times...

Tires are all bolted on and ready to roll.

I will try to get the painting finished up on the front of the truck tomorrow and exhaust is on for 10am Saturday morning. (fingers crossed)

I edited post #373 and added a picture of the valve stem box for the part number.....

Somebody told me you don't need them unless the tires are out of balance.

Seriously though, I don't get too excited about that unless I can feel a problem while driving it, and I haven't been able to drive it far enough to tell..... I can get them balanced anytime.

Well, I had the hood and windshield all taped off and ready to paint, went in the shop to get the spray gun and when I came back out it was sprinkling. The weather people on both stations I watch the weather on said no rain....

Everything got wet enough that I couldn't paint it. I told the wife that I was going to leave it all taped up until morning to see if things dried out. No such luck. It was really humid this morning and everything was covered with dew. About 10am it started sprinkling again. I just ripped all of the paper and tape off of it and said screw it.

On a good note The wife and I stopped to see some friends of ours and I was telling Doug that I was going to have the exhaust installed in the morning. He asked me if I had bought the mufflers for it yet. I said no, that I was going to decide what I wanted to use tomorrow. He said that he had a pair of FlowMaster mufflers in the back room of the shop and I could have them if I wanted them. His Grandson had sawed them off of his Camaro and was going to throw them away. Needless to say I jumped on it and hope they won't be too loud. They are kind of dirty looking but he said he thought they were stainless steel. I don't have a clue what series they are. 3" inlets and outlets.

I will post some pictures of the exhaust tomorrow.

You might be thinking along the lines I am...
Here's my "muffler" thought..

I'd weld some 3" I.D. stubs on the end of that muffler. I don't mind the sound of flow masters, BUT they can be a little loud to some folks. My 05 Silverado staill has the stock exhaust on it and it's quiet. I like it that way...

If you mount the muffler in an area where there's a fairly long straight run of pipe...
You could change the mufflers later, if you didn't care for them.

It's interesting to me that your "freebie" mufflers are in line, entrance and exits, on the side...

That huge engine breathing through those mufflers might sound real nice???

And they DO sound real nice.... .. Installed them this morning.

Weld the stubs on is exactly what we did. AND they are installed in the log straight run. I guess we think alike...

It is really quiet when idling but I haven't had a chance to take it out on the road yet, and probably won't until next week.

I also picked up my bed cross sills from the sandblaster this evening. I was mowing so I didn't hear his call at 3pm, so it was too late to get any pictures when I picked them up.

Nope, 2 1/2. they didn't have enough 3" at the shop and I didn't want to wait another week. If I don't think it is adequate I will take it off and use it on the '70 short bed and put 3" on the dually.

I think the 2 1/2" will be fine. That engine came with a single 3" stock. You need some back pressure to scavenge properly.

For Sure.

If you have Back Pressure, it solves the Drone and also other issues.

That's what I was thinking. 2 - 2 1/2's instead of one 3". We will see what happens. I would have saved the 3" off of the 2003, 2500 pickup but it was bent up pretty bad from the truck being rolled.

My radiator started leaking the other day so I ended up replacing it today. I will need to get the other one repaired and use it because this one doesn't have a heater hose outlet on it. Always something.....

Primed and painted the under bed cross sills, so all I need is the wood. I will have to look up the dimensions or measure the oak kit I have, maybe both, to compare the measurements.

I finally got the hood and around the windshield painted today. Glad that is done!

I also cut the rear tubs so I can widen them. I will post pictures of that tomorrow. I'm hoping to get the bed set on the truck tomorrow. I need to have a friend help me do that. I use the skid loader to lift it up and set it on the frame but I need someone to hold on to it to steady and position it.....

I didn't get the bed on today. I can't get the skid loader started... .. I have a fuel problem but so far I haven't been able to figure it out.
