Re: Gas Prices?

was 4.19 for regular on the way home yesterday. Seems like 20 cent increase per day is becoming standard.

Re: Gas Prices?

Stores in my town must have been behind on their increases so they jumped 30 cents in one day. I hate that.

Re: Gas Prices?

Most of Milledgeville's stations are at 4.09, but Kroger was still at 3.99, so that's where I went.
15 gallons for 62 bucks. Oof

Re: Gas Prices?

Startin' to get ridiculous now.

Four days ago -- $4.969. Three days ago -- $5.169

Didn't leave the house for a couple days. Today it's $5.349

A couple other stations are higher. Makes ya wonder how high it can get.

Re: Gas Prices?

Given world events and latest happenings, doubt we have seen anywhere near the end of the price rises. And higher fuel costs will get passed on to the end consumer, just works that way.

No Politics. What about some facts why we are getting gouged? Please tell me why the prices are so high then? Did all the world's oil supplies get flooded by sea water or space dust? I think this is really hard to discuss without any political talk. I'm probably wrong but there's a lot to this situation.

On edit Diesel in my town was $4.89 this morning. That's a dollar increase from last Friday. Not even a week's time. If it continues that trend, good luck buying groceries in a few months.

I also heard this morning that shipping companies are starting to add on a fuel surtax again too.

Re: Gas Prices?

Kinda slightly regretting buying a family hauler that needs premium... but the base engine was suck an effing dog... and this one.... is not, it's actually kinda fun to drive.

I tried running midgrade when it was about a year old... didn't like it.

For everyone that was complaining how $$$ trucks and full size SUV's were... in a few months you can probably buy whatever you want for cheap?

My wife and I actually don't have to drive much. I'm only 8 miles from the office. My wife is like 7 from hers and she is 3 days/week now. It will be a little more when little man starts daycare in a few months, but not by much. I'm more worried about the trickle down cost of everything else from $$$$ shipping costs.

Re: Gas Prices?

Since this latest gas prices rising to who knows how high and scarest ,,this is what I do..I buy gasolene without ethanol in it ,, for my 39 .my 82 , lawn mower, weed eater , power washer and generators ,,snow blower,,reason why is this

E85 fuel is hygroscopic. The ethanol in E85 can absorb moisture from the air. When that happens, the moisture affects the fuel's ability to power the engine,,

So,, best not to store up extra ethanol ,, I have 15 gallons of non ethanol stored up in plastic cans and both 39 and 82 tanks are full ..

Re: Gas Prices?

Last year I bought an 09 Saturn Vue that was a mechanic's special. I fixed it and daily it when the weather is not good enough to drive my Camaro. Other wise the Camaro is my daily. It gets 22mpg. I drive 60 miles a day to and from work and I have stopped driving a diesel every day. My 454 powered GMC does get expensive to drive if I drive above 70 or drive it like a kid. I still use it but it's trips might get shorter. Dang near all gas here has ethanol in it except the premium stuff. I used to run non ethanol 93 in the Camaro until the prices got above $3. Now I just put the cheap stuff in it because it won't be in there long. I fill it once a week.

seems to be 3.99 to 4.20ish around here for regular corn-fed juice. Haven't looked at what the real gas is that I use in the 70, probably around 4.50ish.

Re: Gas Prices?

I've been here since 2004 and the rules have pretty much not changed at all. I've seen the absolute pissing matches "politics" turns into. Comparing the rules of this forum (which is privately owned and run) to all of the censorship and "fake news" out there is a little unfair.

We all know who's to blame. No need to say the quit part out loud

You’re right the rules haven’t changed but not being able to say a “ name” is beyond ridiculous and when what’s going on in the world can’t be discussed in the general area of a forum is beyond ridiculous. That’s just my two cents which is now two bucks adjusting for inflation.

You’re dead nuts on here Ryan. I can explain it. As you and many others know I’m in the industry. The reason is 100% political. There is no real way to honestly and factually discuss it within the rules here. It don’t have to be this way and we could reverse course on our own if we were allowed to. November will be here soon enough and I think it could be a real ass kicking.

As a side note, took this today just for this thread! Smashing gas and kicking ass!

I guess we can be sure the profiteering gas speculators play no role in establishing these price adjustments I got $50 at $3.77.9 last week. Two days later it was $4.19.9. Today it's $429.99. I used to get three or four days out of $50. Now I get two

Re: Gas Prices?

Hmmm. I was looking at some data. And thinking...

What happened from 2002 to 2008 that caused a fairly consistent and steep increase in prices?

Why has it been so volatile since 2008?

Name: Capture.jpg
Views: 120
Size: 21.6 KB

How does it compare to inflation? Now this is interesting. Adjusted for inflation (according to usinflationcalculator.com), it's been fairly flat or slightly declining since 1978. I wonder how this would look if it updated through today? Gas prices and inflation are both through the roof...

Name: 2.JPG
Views: 150

Then I thought, what does inflation look like in the past year?

Aha. Perhaps there is a strong correlation.

Re: Gas Prices?

A side by side view. Not trying to draw any conclusions, I just find this interesting. I wish there was more data on 2021-2022, because I think inflation is in the 7-8% range, and gas price gains are much higher than that these past few weeks.

EDIT: Sorry this is hard to read, both graphs are 1990-2020...
