Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

huero, great looking truck! That is a great start to any project. I have to say give the old 6 cylinder a try. If my truck had a 6 I'd run it for awhile and see if I liked it. These trucks are becoming like first-gen Camaros; you can't find one with a 6cyl anymore.

You guys are killing me!!! I had a 250 in my Nova and liked the engine alot. The only reason it's coming out is because there is a running 350 with a th400 waiting to go in. I even may have managed to score a V8 exhaust system, headers to tail pipes for the truck in exchange for that 250 core.
The plan for me is to save as much $$$$$ as possible. With that in mind rebuiling the six makes no sense with a 350 lying in the doner truck.
Plus, I might get the exhaust system in trade for the core?
I'm thinking more of saving my $$$$ and not so much the coolness factor right now. Now, who in So Cal. wants the 3 speed manual stuff? Trans is free!

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

I know you have that 350 to drop in there, but keep in mind those 250's are tough. My '72 LB had a miss in it when i got it. It also would slow down a bit on the interstate when going over an overpass @ 70mph. I decided to pull the head & discovered that the valves were so bad it was running on 2.5 cylinders! Had a valve job done & the thing runs like new.
Good luck with the build.......

Since he said 2/4 drop pics coming soon, I'd imagine it's something like drop spindles/coils and maybe a crossmember or the like.

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

Huero, does the truck have a 6 cyl in there? I dont remember, but if so then you have either 3:55's or 3:73 gears in the rearend. Thats a keeper, unless you decided to get rid of it, let me know.

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

Thanks for all the support guys. 2/4 drop is coils front and back, panhard bar, shocks, and shock relocators. I wanted t get the drop in today but, I inspected the front end and decided I want to a rebuild the entire brake system first. I really want this to be as low buck as possible (for financial reasons) but somethings you have to spend some $$ on. So, no drop today but I did give it a good once over and I will start with the brake system first. Engine and trans will be pulled to get better access to the engine compartment soon. I did manage to swap the wheels from the doner truck over. I want to thank Johnoro for stopping bye. I was working on the truck at the time and he jumped in and got his hands dirty. Thanks John! You did not have to but, I sure appreciated the help. You are a good guy and are always welcomed. So, here are todays progress pics.

We were joikng today about the gold truck with white top, silver rims, and red seats. Ha-ha!
By the way I picked up those 60/40 seats for $25 bucks. Thats right $25.

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

Now you know bro I would have been there for you.I forgot the year of your truck, but it looks like mine, a 69 or 70. Also change your ball joints upper and lower, and tie rods.
Trust me, buy the disc brake kit with the complete booster and propvalve set up. Save yourself some time and problems like me. I remember you said you know how to bend your own brake lines.

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

Thanks Vince. I do have the whole 72 set up. I just don't know if I want to run them. I am kinda up in the air over the disc's or drums. I already have 6 lug rims and do not know if I am going to dig the front wheels sticking out more than the rears, plus I am trying to work within a $mall budget.

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

You know you can get 6 lug disc its an option now. I only went to 5 lug cause my friend sold me ralleys for $25.00 for the set.
In your case the selection of 6 lug rims that are out there now will work out for you. Again im here if you need me.

Always disc, now that I have my booster setup, I dont know how I ever stopped without them. Now you lost me when you said the wheels would stickout?

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

I have been told that disc brakes will pull the wheels out 3/4 of an inch on each side from their original location. That is why the 71-72 trucks had a wider rear axle.

Re: huero's project "TRA-BAJO"

On more pic.
I still need to install the outer bumper brackets.
And, I need to buy the inner grill mounting tabs and the headlight alignment plastic that broke on me, that is why the drivers headlight panel is missing.
