Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

You have a nice looking build going on there. You started with a clean truck other then the frame repairs that turned out great. I had the same issue with CPP, I just keep calling them and they shipped the order minus the back ordered parts. Good luck on the rest of the build and will keep checking back on the progress.

Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

Sean good looking truck. Hope you dont get the surprise I did . If you got your stuff delivered by UPS expect another bill in the mail about a month after you got your stuff. I ordered some stuff from Classic Parts. 85.00 for parts plus 35.00 shipping from them. Ups wanted an additional 65.00 for GST brokerage, and cod charge because I didn't have an account with them. By the way the box weighed 2 pounds. No wonder guys are picking there stuff up at Sweetgrass. Sorry about the rant. I may see you at some car shows in the area. I live in Calgary too. Gord

Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

Just spent some time looking through your build thread. Why people think it's ok to butcher a frame rather than..... buy the right headers???!!!
Looks good.
Looking forward to seeing it go back together.

Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up ordering through a dealer to avoid brokerage on this order. No worries on the rant I feel your pain. I've been shipping stuff to the boarder the last while to avoid all the hassle! Look forward to meeting you at a show here and there Gord!

Frame is ... making progress, I'm not sure why this guy took so many shortcuts. Just in a hurry I guess.

I have 5 15 hour days ahead of me to get this pretty much to the point of only wiring left .. wish me luck.
I also bolted up the 383 today with a help of a friend.

Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

So I made some progress, Some snags on the way. Ready to do the rear brakes, in the picture they are just mocked up so I could measure my back spacing. I have no idea what rear end this truck has. Its about a 3.5:1 rotation from pinion to axle spin. Hes welded on the track bar mount, the backing pads for my rear brake mounts are off on the holes, I can't get two bolts in. just one. The studs are larger in over all diameter to the point where the new rotors dont fit over.

So now I'm looking at finding a 66 10 bolt rear. Motor and trans are good, front and rear suspension are done but just mocked up since I will have to swap out rear ends. I'd like to get the motor in today.

Tomorrow I go back to work for two weeks, I'm hoping I can this together when I get back so I can enjoy the summer with it!

Heres a pic of the frame right now.

Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

For the rear end ratio, just take some emery to the input shaft that the yoke is on. There should be two numbers stamped on there. One is for number of teeth on the crown gear, the other is how many teeth on the pinion gear. Divide the smaller number into the bigger number, and you'll have your ratio.
Might be handy when buying a rear end also.

Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

This is a cool build.
I do not, however, understand what trimming your cross member accomplished.
You didn't relocate the mounting surfaces for the frame so I am a little lost on that one.

 I see it now..... never mind..

Just went though your build. You did a great job on repairing the butchery on that frame. The mostly complete chassis looks great. I hope to see more progress soon.

Re: 1966 Custom SB - This is Blanca

I've renamed the truck Cherryforever after my dads 1952 Willys he built for 20 years. I have something lined up for the interior to make it special.

I'm home for two weeks and plan to get as much done as I can. I'll post more pics as I go.

Very cool pictures! Those tires are different than the ones you posted earlier in the thread. What are the specs on these?
