BOX BUILDING!!!

Be sure if you build a box to use high density fiber board and screws. Do not use plywood, it will come appart and vibrate. Check manufacturers recomendations for air space inside the box you need to build. If its not in the instructions that come w/ the speaker call the manufacturer.

In my opinion, you can mount a sub under the seat with no ill effects. Bass is unidirectional and doesn't matter where you put it. though tweeters are very directional and need to be pointed in the intended listening direction. mid range is about halfway between the two others.

-cheap fix- don't know if the 6x9's you bought came ion a box or not but if you are playing them outside of a enclosed box then basically any speaker sound like crap like that. build a small box to put them in w/ approximatly 1 cubic ft of air space in it sealed. a 6x9 will not rumble but will make ok(and i say again ok) sound.

hehe, mountain is right. The box is key. You can use HDF or MDF, both work great. Use lots of screws, screwed in nice and straight. Then seal every seam with Liquid Nails or silicone.

liquid nails is key, imho silicone has to much flex and will weaken the box over time. I said high density just because it hold up better. i think anyway.

yellow, the eq allows you to customize the sound much more accuratly. kind of like the tone and bass knobs on the radio except much better, they are more frequency specific.

I am in the middle of making some boxes for my kick panels to put a pair of 4" JBL's in. I would suggest that you use a good quality wood glue in the joints before you screw them together. It will be stronger than the board itself and they won't vibrate apart.

LippyP is right too. THe best box I ever had, I used liquid nails in the joints, screwed, then siliconed over the seams. Be sure to use some polyfil inside the box as well.

Make sure you use the thickest MDF/HDF you can find, like 3/4 inch.
