Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Well finally got some parts and time for this project. I ordered POL control arms and motor mounts. My brand new stock style control arms will not work with my No Limit rack and pinion. I will post some pics as I swap everything out.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

I was hoping to swap the front suspension out this weekend, but I am getting my parts by slow boat. I ordered everything at the same time, but I am getting like one box a week. Still waiting on the lower control arms. I got a box with springs, hardware and shocks last week and upper control arms today.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Finally working on my own stuff. I am redoing the front end with POL tubular control arms to work with my rack and pinion. I will post more pictures this weekend as I swap it out. Then hanging the motor for the first time.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Does the later model steering box mount on your frame with existing holes in the frame or did you have to make new ones? And same question for the idler steering arm too? I've got a 61 I'm going to do this same swap to. Thank you

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Wade you will have to redrill some for a late model box and idler. This truck had one, but the front frame was bent during an argument with a tree. Thats why I haven't painted it. I am installing a rack and pinion that mounts to the 73-87 crossmember(seemed like the simplest solution at the time). I will post pics of that this weekend. The holes for the steering were also drilled in the wrong place. This whole truck was a suspension mess. Here are a couple of links. The first is from the forum with decent pictures and the next is the CPP tech write-up

Nice to see some progress on the truck again Eric. I'll try and catch up with you in the next week or two. If you need any help or extra hands, give me a call.

Glad the a-arms finally arrived.

Thank you so much for the info and the links, I'll check them out and be waiting for the pics when you install your rack. You may be right, might be easier.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Intalled both sets of front control arms then the bottom let go. So I removed the trans cover. The 55 year old seam sealer was still soft.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

Nice afternoon to hang the engine for the first time. I will have to modify the POL engine mounts to work with the 62 frame.

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

How bad are the mounts off Eric? Looks like they sit above the frame. Can you add a spacer underneath of them?

And digging the tires on the cherry picker....been thinking about the same myself!!

This is another members truck...same frame and looks like same issue. How they resolved it...

Re: 62ish parts from 1960-2000

I was trying to decide between a spacer and modifying the mounts. Thanks for the pictures. Other than being a little tall they fit nice. The bottoms lay perfect. As for the hoist lift. I have some ideas for version 2.0 if you want to modify yours

I know its probably not what you want to do (spacing it), but its the fastest and cheapest solution I can see short of mods to the mount.

And we'll talk cherry picker 2.0 next time I catch up with you.

Dropped my motor off at a friends for rebuild and pulled the cab off to put some serious effort into rust repair.

If you want it. It has three pellet gun holes in it and some major wiper scratches. Oh and it is delaminating.

I was just messing with you. Nice offer though, but seems to be the same condition as the one in my fleetside so I'll pass. I'll have to purchase a new one if I can't find a solid original locally.
