Re: Rare/Hard to find parts?

The metal connector plate and pipe assembly that goes from the air pump to the diverter valve for TBI 454's. it is impossible to find these, they arent suppose to break, but mine did, had to have the pipe peice welded back together

Re: Rare/Hard to find parts?

Smoothie front bumpers are hard to find, because they are not a stock bumper. Okay, you get a bumper that doesn't have the holes for the rubber trim, but it comes with the holes for the license plate. Smoothie bumpers have no holes at all, because they're either welded-up and rechromed, or were never drilled and are aftermarket.

Interior parts, like door panels and dash pads for '95-98, are not available in the aftermarket, as far as I have looked. Some interior colors (dark red, for instance) are more uncommon than other colors. At your GM dealer, those dark red interior pieces may be more money than another color. Dark red may have been produced less, but I have no way of knowing.

Any vehicle that has been out of production for 10 or more years, is going to be harder to find some parts for, through the dealer parts system. So, any hope of finding a specific part dwindles as the days go by. Get 'em while you can....

Re: Rare/Hard to find parts?

A full 454SS rearend. VERY hard to find but a great score when you do find one, damned near bulletproof. There are other rearends very similar (same width, perches, 14BSF) but those 5-lug axles are awfully hard to come by and there's no aftermarkets.

Re: Rare/Hard to find parts?

Ya I never have seen a 454ss in a junkyard around here, thats why I'm finding it hard to get a paintable 88-93 grille because they only came on the sport package trucks. Another hard thing for me to find which may sound dumb to others, but I can't seem to find any paintable rear bumpers off a stepside around here.

Not dumb at all. I tried to find a nice painted rear bumper for a while. Finally got one at the pick and pull then found the deal on my roll pan a couple weeks later. It's now sitting on the side of the garage in case I ever need it.

If you're in a bind, GM still carries them. Today I bought an upper and lower shroud, 9 bolts and 6 clips at my local dealer for $63.89 out the door. They had it all in stock. My truck had a junky electric fan setup that I wanted to do away with ASAP so I had to buy everything for the shroud including the little clips and hardware.

Re: Rare/Hard to find parts?

It's also been hard for me to find the bezel for the tailgate handle.

Keeping up with the thread, I saw a 454SS in the premium section of my junkyard Thursday. I went home to get more tools as I didn't plan on taking a rear end. When I came back the truck (wrecked and completely totaled on the front end) was sitting on a flatbed off to its new home.
