Re: Haulin: or, why fast trucks are better than muscle cars

Here's my #'s matching '70 SS 396 that I sold a few months ago.

My '69 SS Chevelle I sold a couple of years ago.

And my current '70 C10.

Wish I could have taken a group pic like the rest of y'all.

Yes, I'm a Chevelle guy. Any of you happen to post on Team Chevelle?

Next Chevelle will be a '65-'67 if not a '64-'65 GTO.

I have a C10 and TWO pony cars! Well, technically 3 if you count the new one

If I had to absolutely choose only 1, I would have to choose the firebird if it were in the same condition as the mustang and truck, but in their current conditions, I love my truck more (firebird is a pile of parts and rust, but it was my dad's car when I was growing up and we worked on it together).

I've been a member on Team Chevelle since 10/1999 but I don't post there much. I've only been a member on here since 2/2000.

Again left to right: 1989, 1994, and 1984.
I bought the Chevelles when they were simply old cars. Parts in junk yards were plentiful and cost something like buying a piece for your 2004 Focus from a yard right now. Fast forward to today and you can't buy a hull of a Chevelle that somebody robbed the drive train out of and needs a full restore for $3000.

Same thing with the truck. In 1994 it was an old truck and priced accordingly. Now that same $1200 will get you a rust free bed up here.

My neighbor and I were talking Chevelles the other day. He has a '71 hard top. He pointed out that 15 years ago Model A's were worth a gold mine. Now all the guys that drove them in their youth are dead and the demand for them is too. When I was in high school the 70-72 Chevelles were just starting to rust apart along with the GTOs, Skylarks, Cudas, and other stuff that is worth a gold mine today. We simply drove old cars that were cheap at the time.

If you are looking for a car that is going to be worth something 25 years from now, go look at what the high school kids are piloting to school every day. Unfortunately right now that is some mass produced rice burner that lacks the character of a 1972 Chevelle or a 1976 Monte Carlo (another popular car when I was a kid).

I predict that if I make 80, my Chevelles will be decreasing in value because all the people like me will either be dead or drooling in a nursing home. At that time the 2042 Microsoft F150 will be in demand and my early 70s Chevrolets will be relegated to the back row of the car show.
