Re: 1967 C10 Long/Fleet

Played hookie yesterday to work on the '67. After my brother-in-law gave me the green light to rob some misc. parts off of a '66 rolling chassis in his yard, I went to the shop to r and r the trans in my truck. Did some experimenting with another 3-speed Saginaw trans and after finding that it didn't match up to what was on the truck (linkage/column), we put in the Muncie. Did some research and learned some things about these 4 speeds, I've found that the one I got from 'striptnut' is a 1967 M-20. With a few minor adjustments, I'll be able to use the stock shifter that was on the trans. Thanks to Greg (panelrat) and his Father for helping me bend the shifter handle. I'm back at work today but Mario is going to take care of the driveline for me today. I can't wait to get back out there!!

It's funny. Tons of people would kill for one of those Muncie 4-speeds... you give them to the homeys!

Thanks to Greg for cleaning it up... Though I think he was cleaning it for himself. If I would have left it at his place any longer, he would've put it in one of his rides.

Re: 1967 C10 Long/Fleet

wanna know something? When I moved to New Mex coming from California, I was wondering what type of "gearheads " I was gonna run into out here in Rio Rancho. Well as luck would have it I was befriended by a few guys here that all help each other out on there projects. Yeah-New Mexico was a good choice to "park it" for the rest of my days. Thanks 65panelrat,j chav62 and the rest of youguys for all your help with parts and stuff.

And now that I think about it- That Muncie never even touched the ground when I was removing it from my 67C10 project before you guys flew by to scoop it up from my front yard. Hahaha!

I'm glad to have met you brother!! I'm glad you chose New Mexico. It's nice to have this group of friends and family that are willing to always help. You fit it with us perfect! We're gonna have to make a plan this cruise season to get everyone together so all the boys can meet you.

Re: 1967 C10 Long/Fleet

A little more progress this past Friday. I went to the shop after work and put in a couple hours work. Put in the fan/pulley, altenator and belt, radiator and hoses, batt. cables... about then the sun went away. After that I went indoors and 'fine-tuned' the shifter for the M-20. 65panelrat and his Dad helped me earlier straighten out the bend in the shifter, as it was hitting the seat in 2nd and 4th. We went from a 40 degree bend to about a 25-30. It still slightly hit... So I decided to heat and bend it lower on the handle. My buddy Juanillo had a little plumbers torch and it did the trick! I test fit the shifter and it's cherry now!

Re: 1967 C10 Long/Fleet

I had planned on working on the truck on Saturday, but no one was available to let me in the shop... so we cleaned the garage at the house instead. At the same time, I pulled out my grinder with a cutting wheel and created my budget front drop coils.

Greg had given me his old stock springs from his '65 panel. I took out 1 3/4 coils, cleaned and even sprayed them with a coat of paint... So even though I was locked out from the truck, I was still able to check something off the list...

That's cool! The people I bought it from in Los Lunas said they bought the truck just for the crate engine that was in it...

Say Michael, I'll be down in your area this weekend at my rental. Changing tenants this weekend so maybe I can meet up with you and get those emblems and whatever else you may have.

Re: 1967 C10 Long/Fleet

No pics, but I got some work done yesterday. My buddy Abe gave me a box of throttle linkage parts. With some of those parts and some other parts, I was able to 'fab' up the throttle linkage. Looks pretty trick and works cherry. I traded the junkyard radiator I had earlier acquired for an original. So I cleaned, painted and installed that. New heater hose... ran the fuel line and filter... Installed an HEI distributor that my friend Dan Flores hooked me up with, along with new plug wires.. Oh yeah, I also re-gapped the plugs to .045".

I also installed the shifter... which lead to me sitting in the truck for 15 minutes pretend driving, banging through the gears and making engine sounds with my mouth.

I'll post pics later. All it needs is the driveshaft installed and the clutch linkage hooked up to be driving... If the stars are aligned and everything runs good, it will be my "Driven Project" after that...
