Rustoleum FTW! It's on the wheels of my truck and the fender of my former firebird..

Re: High School Project (first build)

I painted mine in 50 degree weather. Roll the wheels inside, and the spray cans as well. Let them sit for a few hours to reach room temp. Roll out one wheel at a time, spray quickly, and roll it back in. Use light coats. The 1st coat or two shouldn't totally cover the wheel.

Use a good primer as well to help the paint to stick.

Re: High School Project (first build)

thanks texan.
So I go the bondo of the bed side today and shot it with a coat of primer so it wouldnt rust. Its pretty nasty! got the wheels painted also. Tomorrow im gonna finish up takin bondo off the other bed side and maybe start to redo it but it needs quite a bit of work.
well anyways... pics:

you cant see it very well but there are little hole all on the bedside

Re: High School Project (first build)

I hear ya on that one. Those wheels are lookin' sharp man, I'd add a clear coat to give them a gloss feel and roll em' like that, they'd look sweet as hell.

Re: High School Project (first build)

so not much has been gettin done lately. ive been really busy and its been super cold. eventually i would like to bag it (after i get it runnin) so i made a list off all the stuff i need and i really need a job! its not gonna be cheep to do it right and like i want it. i got one lined up at a auto shop this summer so id like to wait and just do that but i need money now so i guess the hunt begins.... its supposed to get warmer this week and i have early release tomorrow so after i go off roadin with some guys ill probably get to work takin the bed off and gettin all that all cleaned up
Take it easy,
Jonathan

Re: High School Project (first build)

Well early release i ended up goin to little mountain (off roadin place) with a bunch of people so ive been busy cleanin my other truck and i had to replace the alternator but the past few days ive been workin on the c10. ive never used bondo before so i figured id give it a shot on som low spot in the cab and on the cab seam:

well it aint done yet. i have ADD and i always get distracted and start on somethin else haha

Take it easy,
Jonathan

Re: High School Project (first build)

Then today I took off the bed so i can start cleanin it and whatnot:

then i started to remove the bumpstop brackets:

the frame is in really good shape and the bed is pretty good minus where all the bondo was on the bed sides but its fixable. hopefully tomorrow the rain will hold off til friday and i can clean up the frame and all that good stuff. Also I think ive decided to do a single triangulated 4-link when i bag it. im not sure if i wanna do bag over axle or not... well see.
Take it easy,
Jonathan

Re: High School Project (first build)

Just a note from what I have been told...if you bondo the cab seam, when it flexes, it will crack and ruin your paint. It should be welded first if you want to smooth it. Other than that I would recommend cleaning out the seam. Wouldn't want to see you spray it all pretty in the future only to have your paint chip out as soon as you get it on the road.
