Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
here's my "stock" rake, if you will...
The back end is much higher because it's on a ramp, but that's not important right now (couldn't resist). Anyhoo - mine has a little bit of a fwd rake, not much though. Last edited by jocko; 08-20-2011 at 11:22 PM. |

Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
It's tough to give you a number.
I can say at least 4.5 up front but probably more. I was running a sectioned crossmember @ 1.5 inches and 3 inch belltech spindles. But it is bagged. The rear is bagged with a 1 inch block under the diff. I just set it where it looked good to me!!!! Posted via Mobile Device

This is how I like it. Not too low. Not too levered.

I'm a fan of the "little higher in the rear " look too!

Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
Lots of great trucks guys! Sounds like the tail up is the way to go! I think I'll try to lower mine a tad so the tires fill the wheel wells a little more but keep the factory rake in the rear instead of all the way level. Somebody mentioned sliding off their seat as a kid and I can remember that problem riding in my uncle's Monte Carlo
Here's mine at factory still. Lots of work to do... Posted via Mobile Device I'd like to keep the same rake just lower it a bit. Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
I always like the back end up in the air a bit. Plus, with my bike or any load in the back it just only ever sits level. I hate it when a truck gets nose-high from a load in the back.

Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
on my old '93 C-1500 i went with a lowered/level stance and really liked it...but on a hot-rod classic, i like the rear to be a little higher than the front....my '66 short/fleet won't be lowered at all but rather left at stock height....but when i can afford to do a custom build with my future project(s), they'll most likely have a little bit of rake
i don't like that Cali-style(?) where the arse end is squatted lower than the front |

Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
A lot of guys build those pre-runners that have more height in the front than the rear. Cool for what they are, I guess. There was a guy here on the board that built one like that not too long ago I think.

Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
I know these pictures aren't great for stance but I like the back up a bit myself. So This truck has 2.5" drop spindles and 3 " drop coils in the front and 5" drop in the back. Thats only 1/2" difference but when you stand back and look at these trucks they look like the back is higher to begin with because of the way the box bottom ends.

Re: Best "Rake/Stance" for a Hot Rodded 60-66 C10?
This some older pictures of my '64. I've done a lot more suspension work since then, and I don't have any pics of the latest configuration, but will have some as soon as I get it back on it's wheels.
Since these pictures were taken, we have Z'd the front of the chassis up 2" and forward 1" to center the wheels in the wheel openings. The rear is coming down about another 1.5-2.0 inches. I want a hot rod rake, so the rear will still be higher than the front. It's a little too much right now.

Yeah, isn't that Delmo from his interview? I love the heartbeat stripe, very 80's looking. Sweet truck no matter when it was taken.
Lot's of great trucks guys. They're giving me plenty to ponder on the perfect stance for a hot rod!
