Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!

Cool addition Chief !!!! Looks like it has Washington Plates ... I was gonna say I have a posi rearend out of a 63 GMC 1/2 ton pickup with around 3:55 gears I would've sold you for the burban if its leaf .... Don't know if same or different like on the chevys 62 / 63 ... I'm in gresham , Oregon and could've met and loaded into the burb ... Would've made you a great deal $150.00 ... Day late and a dollar short ... Good Luck on the rig !!!! Always enjoy your builds !!!

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!

Thanks man !!

Well, my plan is to do a little (if possible) every day after work.

I stopped at the local Walmart, and picked up some supplies ....

-
I decided it needed a decent set of matching rollers, so my daughter and I cleaned up the stock wheels off the '63 .....
-
-

-
-
One of the four cleaned ....
-
-

-
-

-
-
I noticed all four wheels have these marks on them ... Are these factory markings ??
-
-

-
-
The worst one ....
-
-

-
-
All clean ... wheels have a nice 'patina' on them () .. if only the body did ...
-
-

-
-
It looks like the body was originally white, but there is also blue showing. In fact, it looks like they painted the trim (and obviously more) blue at one time. It was late, so I hit one spot with an SOS ....
-
-

-
-

-
-
Hopefully tonight, I can give it a nice first bath ...

Someone used some thin, silver tape over the rust holes before laying primer ...

Ya, it did but needed to be done.

Thinking about picking up that TopBanana Roof to windeshield panel Aero mentioned in other thread...along with front fender braces. I will use my extra '63 longbed to give up its sheetmetal for fender repair....Thoughts on Top Banana ?

Hey Chief, That upper windshield panel is a good idea..I drilled out the spot welds (88 of them) on mine and was able to clean all up in there..I got mine from Top Banana Too..Now I'm confident theres no rust up there
O yea keep scrubbing that primer I'm sure there's patina under there somewhere Burb looks Great..

haven't bought that above windshield piece, but I have bought several other pieces from Top Banana, and have had good luck. They're all KeyParts/Tri plus.

Still working on shipping rates, thought I had it nailed down (cheap too), but the shipping company (fedex freight), isn't sticking to what was quoted.

I could pile the seats around the 283/PG and just ship one big ass pallet to ya...

Enjoy the vacation!!
All for the same price/shipping ?? Awesome !!

Cool man ....

I think when I get back, Im gonna pull the crossmember from under the '63 C-20 and use it. I have 1/2 ton rubber bushing style a-arms pulled from wrecking yard. Also have all new bushings and 88-98 style BJ's to except spindles I have also. Gonna rework the lower a-arm to except newer BJ, and run a 6-lug rotor ....

OK, gotta head to air-port .....

ALOHA !!!!!!!!!!

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!

That C20 crossmember isn't going to work for you John. When you get back take a look at the LCA shafts and how they mount. I suppose you could always fab some saddles and weld them on, but I think getting them in the exact location would be a big PITA.

Have fun and see you in a week.

Hmmm ....

This is first early chassis, but always read here that 63 and later crossmembers bolt up with some sort of "elongation" of holes or something ?

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!

The crossmember will bolt up to the frame, but there are no saddles for the round C10 LCA shafts. The '63-'66 C20 LCA shafts are flat and bolt to the crossmember with standard hex head bolts.

Re: My '62 GMC Suburban is on it way !!

Well, we flew in last night. Arrived back in CA (San Jose) at about 7:45. Pilot must of been in a hurry ... We actually arrived almost 45 min early.

The Maui airport is evidently a short one, because the pilot had to get on it before he even straightened it up on the runway ... thought he was gonna get a little sidewayz .... The wind at take off had the wife almost in tears ...

All went well ... and we had a great time !!!

Upon waking up this morning, I had my first present to open... Actually our dog, Jacob helped out with it.

Today, nothing much was done, besides opening more can-o-worms ...

Notice the piles on the floor .... Looks like rockers officially need replacement, and well as floor crossmembers need replacement/patching ...

Good thing, the driveline with front slip is present.

You have that elusive pan that protects the front section of the engine between the rad and motormounts. Some trucks do most don't.
