Re: New 1959 Apache Father/Daughter Project..

Small update. Had my daughter help with changing out the master cyl. We also sorted out the wiring and ran brake lights and turn signals. We took it for a ride around the block a few times and let her sit on my lap and drive for alittle bit too. She seems to be enjoying it so far. I plan on ordering most of the remaining parts next month so I hope to start moving alittle faster on it.

Re: New 1959 Apache Father/Daughter Project..

You need to get some manuals and let her read up on it. She needs to see how thrilled some of us are that she is interested in that truck. Nothing wrong with a girl doing mechanical work, there are lots of women mechanics nowadays.
She doesn't need to become one but knowing as much about it as possible will help her, and how cool when she can fix a guys car, she'd be number 1 at school. LOL

Your not only building a truck but a lifetime of great memories. This is something that she will talk about the rest of her life.

Re: New 1959 Apache Father/Daughter Project..

Small update. It's been kinda slow with being out of town and the heat. We got most of the chrome and emblems back on. Got the brakes working good. I should get a new aluminum radiator in today. Now I just need to pull the motor to paint and regasket it, put new seal on pinion gear and a new idler arm then we can drive it for awhile before paint.

We pulled the motor today. I'm gonna put all new seals and paint the engine. I ordered some POR 15 for the engine compartment. We have alot of cleaning ahead for the next few days!

Re: New 1959 Apache Father/Daughter Project..

Really cool project, I have 3 boys so there were always helping me out on stuff. It is surprising how a project can lead to talking about other topics. Use your time to make a great bond with your daughter. I bet she will feel more comfortable talking to you when she has problems later in life. Those teenage years are really tough. Truck is really looking good, through a front seal in the transmission while you have it apart....nothing sucks more than putting the motor back in and the tranny leaks.

Sweet looking Camaro in the back ground. I have a 69 SS but it is still in progress.

Got the engine all cleaned up and painted. Changed all the gaskets except the head gaskets. We will be cleaning and painting the engine compartment this weekend.

Re: New 1959 Apache Father/Daughter Project..

Thanks! It is taking awhile to get it driving. I hope to have it done enough to drive for Cruising the Coast here in south Mississippi the first week of Oct. She still has 3 years before she is old enough to drive so plenty of time to complete it all.

Re: New 1959 Apache Father/Daughter Project..

Fixed a little rust in the cab floor. It's not perfect but better than rusty holes. Little more grinding and some body filler then pant and it will look good enough.
