Re: baggin questions

Hi everyone,

If you dont want to you dont even need to run a lower bag mount or cup on a 63-87 lower control arm. Just cut the bumpstop bracket off grind everything so theres no sharp edges or burrs and install your bag to the upper plate. The bottom of the bag will rest in the lower spring pocket just like the stock coil. As long as everything is smooth theres no worries of bag failure!
No lower cups on my old burban worked fine. Look at www.ifcustom.com at Marrissas suburban thats where I got the idea.

Re: baggin questions

I was installing the front sway bar last night and noticed that the back of the front bags are touching on the inside edge of the spring pocket. They are just barely rubbing in the spot where the spring pocket "bends" around the shock mount. My front cups are cut down to about 1" and if they weren't, I don't think I would have this problem. I had the A-Arms sand-blasted and powder-coated so the edge is definitely smooth but the interference worries me. Should I worry??? Should I get another set of cups and not cut them down as much as the first pair?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: baggin questions

Sorry kevncar. I just realized that I totally hijacked your thread. Didn't mean to do that. Hopefully my question will help you with your project also.

Re: baggin questions

No, that's fine. I'm planning on cutting my cups down too, so I'd like to see responses to this issue also.

Glad you're not offended. Hopefully we get a good response (hint, hint).

This has to be a fairly common issue... I have seen many threads from board members who have cut their cups down more than mine and haven't heard of any problems with bag failure. They are barely touching but I am concerned because I have heard a lot of people say your bags shouldn't rub on anything.

Come on air ride guys. I know you have an answer for us.

Re: baggin questions

So I can't tell from the picture, do your bags just rub when they are deflated or when there is enough air in them to drive? If it is just when airred down, that's no biggie imo because how much driving are you going to do when airred out anyway.

I am curious about guys cutting the cups too. The limiting factor in my front suspension drop is the tire hitting the inner fender with my 255/45/18s. Are those of you that are cutting cups not running inners or running custom ones, or shorter tires?

Re: baggin questions

Thanks for the reply. The bags are only coming into full-on contact when deflated but are closer than I would like at ride height. I was thinking that when I hit a bump in the road and the bag went into "compression" that they might rub on the bottom-end of the suspension travel.

As far as cutting the cups down, my tires are a little shorter than most (I think). It seems a lot of bagged trucks are sitting on 20's whereas I plan to run a 245/45-R18 tire on the front which is only 26.6" tall.
