Re: How To - 3/4 Ton - Converting to a 14bolt

What did you do for an e brake? Does your truck have the trans mounted drum and you just left the 14bolt unhooked?

I don't have this 66 Service Truck anymore.
I don't remember having to do anything special to hook up the 14-Bolt E-brake cables to the existing 66 cables.
I do remember testing them. Because I won't take a vehicle out on the road without a working e-brake.

Re: How To - 3/4 Ton - Converting to a 14bolt

great write!
I want to know if the pinion angle can still be achieved if I dont have the HO52 any longer. I do have the 14 bolt that have to have the perches cut and new ones installed. I have been waiting to do this job, but my truck is fully apart. From what I understand you have to set vehicle weight then set angle.

Yes & no. To dial things in closer, installed w/full weight on the chassis is the way to go.

But, if you can jig something up like @LostMy65 did, you'd be putting the perches @ the same angle a factory rear was set at. That get's it set-up like factory & then you might need to use shims (which means having shims made) to dial it in. Or.... Use the jig to get them set @ the factory angle & only tack them in place until the build is farther along.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Thank you for your response. By tacking the perches it would allow me to complete a rolling chassis.

Absolutely.

Maybe put the tacks where they're easily accessible so if you decide when you're farther along that you'd rather adjust the pinion angle as close as possible it's easier to do before welding it permanently.
