I have that exact radio in my '71 K20. I picked up some 8 tracks at an antique store, but only one works. Is there anyone that repairs them? The tapes, I mean.

Yes LOL, this thread is great! I do remember when 8-tracks, cassettes, and LP's were in the stores. Now it is funny that CD's are on their way out and LP's are coming back. You guys have some really nice 8-track players and artist recommendations. I like using this stuff that was once state-of-the-art, then it became junk, and now it is back to classic retro. One day archeologists will also be scratching their heads about some of the stuff they find in my digs.

With all the musical groups mentioned "the carpenters" seems a little out of place with the others.

Playing Carpenter songs were great if you were sitting in your truck with your girl in a quiet place looking at the moon and stars and wanting to... I'll leave it at that !!!!

Everyone has reasons for likes. My dad listened to the Carpenters all the time. Have a playlist in my ipod that includes quite a few of their songs. Just like the the 72 truck it brings back many good memories of times past when my parents were still with us. The 8-tracks are kind of cool IMO.

Re: My 1969 CST/10 has a Chevrolet AM/FM/8-track player

Thanks, it's an audiovox Am/Fm tape player I bought brand new, box still stapled at an out door flea market. I wasn't even looking for one. I don't know the model number off hand, sorry. I wish it had push buttons for the channels so I didn't have to turn the knob going from channel to channel, but that,s OK.

Re: My 1969 CST/10 has a Chevrolet AM/FM/8-track player

It took me a LONG time to get tunes going in my truck. But now that I got the A/C going everything else shifted higher in the priority list and tunes was one of those things. I removed the in-dash radio/8-track and I'm hunting for a dash repair section right now, and I'm going to put a stock AM radio and stock speaker in there. For hi-fi I'm going with an under seat amp and speakers and an 8-track player under the dash. If I connect bluetooth from my phone or iPod it will play that, and if bluetooth is not connected it plays the 8-track, auto switching.

This is what the situation looks like with the seat raised up on straps so I can work under there.

2 pairs of JBL 6-1/2 inch speakers that I built plywood boxes for. With the seat installed the speakers are pretty much hidden. The sound seems to come from everywhere, very balanced and centered at the tach position of the instrument cluster. I don't know how that worked out, but I like it.

NOS Sparkomatic under dash 8-track player, this thing puts out a whopping 3 watts of very cruddy sounding stereo power, incredibly bad when connected directly to speakers. When I run it through the big under seat amp it is quite good.

I bought a box of various rock tapes on eBay. Some of them work and some don't. The ones I like I will probably send to an 8-track repair service, it is pretty cheap to have them repaired. https://www.8trackavenue.com/my-tape-repair-service
For titles that I gotta have I will buy them on eBay, etsy, or The 8-Track Tape Store https://the8tracktapestore.com/shop/

Do any of you guys offer 8-track tape recording service? I can send you the CD or mp3's and you can record on blank tape. There are probably just a few modern albums that I would like on 8-track. Since I'm a premium member again it should be fine to ask, so this is a want-to-buy paragraph. Please PM me if you have a recorder and you make tapes.

There’s a post on here somewhere where someone shows how to install a jack to plug your iPod or MP3 player into a factory AM radio. You might want to search it.
I’m looking to do the same with mine.... factory Am with an under dash 8 track and fm converter.

You can do this with pretty much any radio as long as you do it before the volume ctl. You could also splice in a BT board such as this. You'll also need one of these. I did that here.

Re: My 1969 CST/10 has a Chevrolet AM/FM/8-track player

That looks like a factree option unit from a Chevy. Although it could be from a Buick, Olds, Pontiac, or Cadillac. Probably late 70s. Some of those units are huge. There is no cadillac crest on the knobs, so probably from one of the other makes. It also doesn't have radio station preset buttons so probably not from a higher end Buick or Pontiac model.

Best bet to find one of these is the junkyard, or Fleabay.

Audiovox/Kmart. Kraco also had the same unit.

OK who's hardcore enough to go for this and complete your C-10 experience. Once it arrives in the mail, go ahead and rip open the wrapper and plug it in.

Guess I should do more than look at the pictures! I may have to give this service a try. Seems legit and certainly cheap enough. Thanks for the link.

Re: My 1969 CST/10 has a Chevrolet AM/FM/8-track player

Today I received from Mrs. Santa several tapes on my wish list, so I'm rocking now:

Chicago IX
Led Zeppelin II
The Best of ZZ Top
The Beatles 1962-1966
The Beatles 1967-1970
Steve Miller Band Book of Dreams
Steve Miller Band Fly Like an Eagle
Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits
The Pretenders
The Pretenders II

Most came from the8tracktapestore.com and 8tracksrback.ecrater.com. It is fun to get the tapes and just plug them in and have them work the first time. These 2 stores apparently do a good job of restoring and testing before sending them.
