Re: More updated pics of wifes 72 Suburban

Yes, it is a rather odd color but I wouldn't paint mine any thing else. It's the original color for mine also. I assume it's single stage? I'm writing down the information and even though I cannot buy Omni in this town, I may travel to the city to pick some up, Thanks.

Re: More updated pics of wifes 72 Suburban

Few more pics. Pic of Suburban pulling in driveway was taken this morning. First test drive..shortened due to missing windshield a 8 degree weather! Last pic is where all of this started...one ugly Suburban(wife still loved it). Everyone is now up to date.

Re: More updated pics of wifes 72 Suburban

I didn't even get her out of first gear(8 degrees and no windshield..guess I'm a wimp..sorry)but everything felt very good,steered nice,rode nice,no funny noises,spun all the tires in the snow. I'm dying to get my glass guy over to finish so I can go for a real drive. Still needs to go to trans shop for TV cable adjust and checkup and to the muffler shop to have left head pipe redone. The old girl is REAL close to finished!

Re: More updated pics of wifes 72 Suburban

Zeusflash;

I really like how your interior rear side panels turned out. Did you clean up original ones? (re-glue edges and recolor or ?) Looks like your carpet layed down very nice too. Seems like I am playing catch up to you. Might be a couple of weeks but I will try to put together a set of caps to run by you.

Keep up the hard work and I enjoy what you have shared. I need to do more of that myself.

Yup, you can't beat the medium olive and white combo. Yours looks just like mine except I have white on the lower section also and have barn doors. Very nice work and thanks for all the pics!

Re: More updated pics of wifes 72 Suburban

Cheyene10,
I peeled the original vinyl off of the cardboard(very warped),cleaned the vinyl then used the original cardboard as a template for new backing made out of 1/8 masonite(sometimes called hardboard,available at the home improvement stores). I then used spray adhesive to glue the vinyl to the masonite. When I folded the vinyl around the edges I used brush on contact cement to get the strongest possible bond on the backside. My Suburban was missing the filler between the two panels on the drivers side so I made a piece of metal strap and wrapped it in the same vinyl that i covered the rear box speakers with(the wife found the vinyl at a local material store). I screwed the filler on and you can't even tell it's there. I used this same method on my 71 Blazer about 10 years ago and it still looks great. Very simple and inexpensive not to mention durable. Post more pics of yours because seeing yours progress helps to keep me motivated! By the way my Blazer is the same color as your Suburban(actually tried to talk my wife into that color but she wanted to stay original).
