WOW! Cool project. MEMORIES!!! Your truck *was* the "twin" to my 67. Only difference is the spare tire cut out! Mine *WAS* white with a blue int. when I got it. 250 six popper and 3 speed... long ways from that now!

I watched your build all the way through . I had a 68 short fleet then . I hope mine turns out as nice as yours . I would be going blue if my Camaro and Luv were not blue .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

how did that front setup work out for you. IS there anything you would add to help aid in this setup. I would love to swap my stuff over to 6 lug in the front to match my rear.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

The rear axles are very hard to drill . I think I went through 4 drill bit . They sell a 7/16 lug with the provisions for the "metric" center cap on ebay . I still have not gotten it aligned yet , so that will tell me alot more about it . And i have purchased the proportioning valve and have found a race car shop to install it in my line to the rear brakes with double flare . The brakes needed attention anyway so why not try the conversion . I got about $350 in it so far .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Cool , i went today and bought the metal prep and primer to seal it up . I also got the paper and tape . I intend to spray part of it tommorow and finish out the body work myself . I have done body work before it just isn't my favorite subject . If all goes well with that I may try and spray it myself . I bought a set of 15x8 and 15 x 10 dish mags from the original owner that are in great shape . They look like this . http://i20.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/db/af/45f9_12.JPG Only 6 lug . I'll probably run 255 /60/15s on front and 275/60/15 s on back . with a chrome center . I picked up the headers today and will probably be running the new cherry bomb elites in 2.5" I also called the machine shop to check on the motor . No real progress on it yet . I cleaned up the tilt column have located a automatic crossmember for it .

I got this done today , but I wiped the driverside down with thinner first and it kinda fish-eyed on me . From here on out everything gets fish-eye preventer . Anyway i'll block it out and respray it in the coming week . I need to do some more body work and I am going to replace the rockers myself . I just want to keep this project moving . The hood deal didn't work out so i will be using a stock hood .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

A couple of progress pics . Today was the Houston area get together at Houston raceway park swap meet . There where about 10 of us . It was great seeing friends and meeting new ones . We all had a nice mexican food lunch in Baytown .

Today's swap meet scores : cab support bushing , 4 core radiator , 2 trailing arms , 1" rear drop coils . KYB rear shocks , Power coated panhard bar with poly bushings , powder coated shock mount Ubolts and panhard mount , Manley 6" rods , blue sunvisors , and some cool door handle /window cranks . Here are the new rims and tire combo , I have the 5th one for the spare cut out .

You don't mention if you cleaned the driverside with wax and grease remover before you started painting. If you are priming and getting fisheyes, just FYI, it isn't recommended that you use fisheye preventer in it. Anytime you use thinner to clean, always follow with a good cleaner, even xylene will work if you don't have access to a good W & G remover. Thinner is a great cleaner but isn't chemically pure meaning that it leaves a residue that is a contaminate to primer and paint.

Also they (the fisheyes) may have been caused by water in the airline. At your local autobody supply store they sell small inline air filters that you stick right on your gun. They cost a couple of bucks and well worth it.

Hope this helps.

Don

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Well , I just wanted to update . My father fell yesterday and broke his coller bone . I have been back and forth ( about 25 miles ) to check on him and mom . He and I are working on the 49' and that is all he can talk about , since we that one has been in the family since 1958 and he loves that truck . I've only gotten 1 to 2 hours a nite in . I got the rockers torn off and found out the drivers fender is junk . Also found the floor to kick panels are kinda rough . Lokks like i will need a passenger side inner rocker also . some floor pan repair will also be needed . I want this done by the end of April . Checked on the motor today and found not much has been done . I'll get the rockers and fender with inner fenders monday . I also got a quote on the paint job from another body shop . This guy ( Kenneth's paint and body , Baytown , Texas ) is the shop doing the 49' 5-window for me and dad . So we'll see how that goes . No sign of the "boss" at the other shop . Here are some current pics . Let me know what you think , as it seems like "spray" is the only reply I get .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Sometime in the past it got whacked right in the corner . They jerked it out with a slide hammer and did a good repair job , but it got water under it some how and rusted under the filler . Everytime I put it in the sun it would get this black tary looking stuff ouzzing out of the filler . I took the lfiller off and found the rust . It is cheaper to replace the fender , than fix it . Im also gonna price new rear fenders . I am getting into a restoration vs. a fix up and repaint and drive .

I have some choices to make on the motor and would like some input . 1st motor forged flat top 355 , balanced , 2 bolt 9.75 to 1 . 2nd motor all cast 383 , balanced 2 bolt , 9.5 to 1 . 3rd motor 350 forged flat top , not balanced 4 bolt . 9.6 to 1 . All these are mine and will get 64 cc 167 intake heads with comp hydraulic roller . Im leaning toward the 383 , but have not decided yet .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Looks good! I really like those wheels.
What's wrong with your rear fenders? If it's just the rust right above the steps I see, then you're money way up just making some patch panels. I did that on my first stepside.
