Re: how much horsepower does your truck have

hey, boost is addicting. no doubt about that!

i would love to do a twin 62-1 setup, but given all the extra weight that would be on the front of the already heavy 2150 lbs of my pickup, i wouldnt hook up period..

im going to be doing a midmount turbo setup with as much stuff moved behind the rear axle that i can get back there. should be fun!

Horse power, I don't think you can count the engine in either of my trucks as having any horsepower. But enough to cruise at serious highway speeds for hours on end without issues is plenty.

neb, your going to run a system like STS turbosystems? Very cool. Always interested on how those work. What are you doing for cooling? FMIC? Air to Water?

Re: how much horsepower does your truck have

well, the same basic principal as an sts.. try and hide as much as i can...

im going to TRY and mount the turbo where the battery box is now. *original location* and have full exhaust.. as far as intercooler goes, i dont need one unless im really pushing it. carborated systems play their own "cooling" role in the atomization of the fuel. so from what ive seen, i should be good without a cooler for up to 12-14 lbs. if i want to go higher, then ill just install a meth setup to help out there. but i shouldnt have to. 500 wheel should definetally be doable with 93 pump and that snail.

ignition, im going with a plane jane HEI with the simple upgrades and curve ket and MSD's new 6AL2. pretty cool, and very simple!

Re: how much horsepower does your truck have

I have a '68 307 that's rated at 200 hp and with a couple of bolt ons I'm hoping to get 300 hp; naturally aspirated of course.

no worries, should have figured that based on your screenname (c10), anyway... what is your setup going to be?

290hp Goodwrench motor, runs 70 on freeway all day long. On good old regular pump gas, daily driver type rig. 68 Camaro 10 bolt, 273 gears, 70 A body subframe, turbo 350, it just doesn't get any more dependable.

Re: how much horsepower does your truck have

Should have added this question too.
What suspension?
What rear end?
What chassis?
How does it hold up?

383 backed by a TH400, stock frame, CPP Grand Slam kit 5/7 drop, tubular trailing arms, power disc brakes. Has a 12 bolt but going to upgrade to a posi don't know what gear yet. Rolling on 16x8 reverse smoothies with wide whites.

We'll see how well it holds up.

Re: how much horsepower does your truck have

Our 1957 has the original 235 and has probably never even been rebuilt. Runs OK still.... I would guess it 100HP on a good day.

Re: how much horsepower does your truck have

I was planning on buying a GM crate motor but I got a really good deal on a freshly rebuilt 350. It was dyno'd at 400 HP and 450 FP tourque at the flywheel with a standard 4 barrel and edlebrock carb, I've probably reduced that with my 3x2 high rise but it should still get out of it's own way

No clue, the truck is road worthy yet, will be in a few months but I still have a lot of work to do before she hits the pavement.

Re: how much horsepower does your truck have

Cajun, I was battling with the idea of going LS1 and putting a couple bolt ons, but got too good of a deal on a fully built 327. Was that with your 20x8s? How do you suppose it would grab with a 15 or 16x10 with street slick?

first gear stands no chance with radials.

and no you dont need fat meats to hook up.. and a 4 link properly setup will hook just fine with a 275/60/15 drag radial.. which is proven that runs in the 7's now. no im not saying these old heavy trucks can run that fast with the small tire, but they work.. and will work for what im going after

will be putting in a mild built 350 with forged pistons and for now, a holset turbo off a cummins bus in the truck. should support 500 wheel, then ill be upgrading to masterpowers 76 series turbo hoping for 600 wheel on 93 pump!

classic dreamer, im also wondering what makes ya think that a twin turbo setup isnt practical? minus the price? extremely efficient, able to run better mpg out of boost than a NA motor set up correctly. and you dont need a big cam to make power.

Will a 275 drag radial fit without cutting anything up? I have a little small block in myne and am getting ready to order wheels/tires. I was planning on a 15x10 with 4.5in backspacing and a M/T 275/60/15 drag radial. It looks like I might have to cut some of the bed out to make it fit, but it destroys the stock 225/60's on it now...

BTW 500+hp (est) 388 stroker here...
