Re: 1969 C10 (Mean Green) Metamorphosis

Thanks guys. We are still working on it, so all that is mostly catch-up to where it is today. Just a little more catch-up now (last weekend's work) and I can update as we go.

SO, last weekend we removed all the paint from the grill and added chrome headlight bezels.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Then, since it was all cleaned up, we took it out for a scenic picture...

A little interior work...

Took the original visors:

And recovered them:

Used new black vinyl, but the old padding and edging. The green edging cleaned up really well and looked nice with the black.

The burgandy carpet was replaced with black rubber and nice sill plates added:

The center console was repainted black and a new lid made out of wood, which was later recovered (see next pic) with the same vinyl used for the visors:

Interior with black rubber floor, painted center console and door panels, new radio, covered seats and visors:

Re: 1969 C10 (Mean Green) Metamorphosis

Just thought I would post a few pics of my truck. My wife (Tink) started this thread awhile back. I have been busy the past few years. Got laid off and started a construction company. 2012 was the worst year- I think I only drove her 3 or 4 times- was working 80-90 weeks trying to get the ball moving with the company. I did however use the truck for company business for a couple of weeks in late 2011. Had a ladder rack and tool box on her for a bit! Even did some work for my brother in law in New Jersey and I drove the 69. The 88 GMC was having motor issues at that time. 2013 she spun the mains on our Anniversary headed to Pigeon Forge. Made it to Bristol and then a long tow truck ride home. Rolled it off the wrecker at 11am and had the motor out and apart by 5pm drinking a cold one! Gotta love these old rigs! Anyway about the ol girl got some love again so I figured I would make a few changes. I have ordered some parts and will be posting in this thread and on this forum on a more regular basis now. Here are a few pics of some places she has been the last few years and how she looks now.

Re: 1969 C10 (Mean Green) Metamorphosis

Found a couple more pics of the 69. The one with the old barn is at a bed and breakfast in PA. We took a fall trip to New York and crashed a local cruise in Elmira New York while visiting family!

Re: 1969 C10 (Mean Green) Metamorphosis

Well I finally got most of the parts in and was able to start putting them on yesterday. I ordered the Pypes Violator system and it went together pretty good so far. The instructions were almost worthless, the pics on there website were by far much more helpful. I forgotten from 08 when I did the original glass pack h pipe set up that these Hedman headers require an s bend to roll the exhaust past the factory cross member. This lengthened my front legs on the x so I had to but weld extensions from a piece of straight 2 1/2" pipe I had bought for just such a situation. Each side requires a slightly custom length of s pipe to make the roll. I also removed the headers to add ball flanges- I never have liked the bolt together flanged connection, always seem to leak. I also had a header gasket leak which turned out to be a small piece of old gasket I had missed from the last time I swapped the gaskets. As you can see if I had used the turbo 350 cross member position- this truck was originally a turbo 400, the header s-pipe/ ball flange would have been tough at best. I never have cared for the way GM so brilliantly made a cross member that hides the back trans pan bolts so for the sake of my existing parking brake cables and ease of future trans maintenance I left my cross member in the stock 400 location and welded a tab on the front to mount the turbo 350. Back to the exhaust. I started at the front and used jackstands, blocks of wood, and patience to work my way back to check the tailpipe and muffler fitment. Only then did I tack everything in place from the front back under the truck. Then I pulled it out from under the truck and started finish welding. Everything was going great then I realized my grinder had a broken shaft, then I ran out of welding wire! Well it was almost 5 o clock time for an adult beverage!

Great job saving this one! Bet your nephew who sprayed it w/ primer and wrecked it regrets not taking better care of it now.

Any updates on this great looking truck?
