Re: 69 Short Step

nice score on the truck...I'd check on the inner rockers and make sure the old rockers were removed and not just new ones slipped over since I see them screwed in....would hate for you to paint it that way and have rust come back out from the inside within a few months...

That is the direction we are going with the step. We need a new cap for the back pass side, put some whitewalls on it, drop it 4/6 static, make it loud and fast! No more finding fancy wheels, I fell in love with those hub caps the minute I seen the truck.

Re: 69 Short Step

Got more pics for you guys on the 68

One of the big things I wanted on this build was a 67-68 steering wheel

The 68 cab and front clip is goin on the 69 frame, the cab is in good shape, some surface rust above the back window

And yea the rockers have been replaced at one point, but we are gonna pop the rivets off, take em off, POR15 behind em, weld em back on.

Re: 69 Short Step

I will get some pics up later today when we work on it a bit more, but right now we are using the stock wiring harness, just gonna clean it up, and try n find a late model fuse block to switch it over to. Wish us luck!

Re: 69 Short Step

So last Friday we made a convertible outta the 69 cab, the bottom is pending sale locally, the top will be all for the 71 longbed since it needs glass and a pillars.

We also got the engine in today from the machine shop where we got the short block built, heads decked, and the whole engine gone through. With these pistons we should be looking at 9.5 to 1 compression and with the 882 heads, the 750 holley on the aluminum intake, and the corvette big ole lopey cam, long tube headers with straight pipes dumping into a glasspack on each side, we should be looking at almost 300 horses on 87 octane. Final gear will be 3.73 and a 2000 stall 700R4 will go behind the 350. This thing is gonna SCREAM

Shiney!!!

Rims are gonna be awesome too, if you seen my thread earlier we found some sweet rims, we are finally dead set on a direction with this truck and it will be a shop truck. I will letcha know later what we are doing...

Re: 69 Short Step

I think the Auto Fair at Charlotte was a success...

Bought some POR 15 to get the frame painted for $85 for everything, the cleaner, prep and the paint, bought some 5 lug 15x8 truck ralleys for $80, bought an oil pan for the new engine for $30, got a wiring harness for $165, and some teardrop LED taillights that will be flush mounted to the fenders. Gonna be sa-weet!

I already had the hubcaps, I just put it on to see how it may look

Gonna look *****in on some fat white walls, sitting in the weeds!

Got this for $5 and has a protect-o plate

21 Circuit Wiring Harness from EZ Wiring

Re: 69 Short Step

And once we get the money together, the 68 front clip will be sans park lights, and we are doing the headlights with integrated park lights

Re: 69 Short Step

Got the tie rod fixed on the 68, swapped the tires from the 69 frame to the 68 truck, fired up the 68 and let it clear its throat, drove her round the yard a bit, and did a small burnout.

Remember guys it is bad for the environment if you don't do a burn out at least once a day

Re: 69 Short Step

I really like the colors on your truck. I had a 1988 Chevy Stro Van with the same colors and thinking about doing my 68 stepside I just bought with your same colors. Can you tell me the actual paint colors on your truck and send me a photo of the interior? Really sharp truck.

Thanks-Mika

Re: 69 Short Step

Our new to us valve covers, all we traded for was some beat up bumpers we were gonna throw away.

At the Charlotte Auto Fair we bought a clear dizzy cap

And these are taillights that we are using, got em for $85 with the flasher. They will be flush mounted to the rear fenders. Bright ass LED tails.

Our NEW plan now, since we have those valve covers is to get an intake with an oil filler tube, so those will be powdercoated silver to give them an aluminum look, then we are gonna keep watching flea bay and see if we can get us a triple deuce set up on the cheap. It is gonna be sweet!

Re: 69 Short Step

So we got a 4BBL steel intake with the oil fill tube with a good used quadrajet to top off the 350, and now it has that old school look

Got the fame stripped down today too for the most part, all that is left is the rear axle, my father and I will get that done tomorrow.

My two helpers besides my dad, teachin my daughter early!

Re: 69 Short Step

Cool intake...like the old school look of the oil fill tube!

And nice group of helpers...and your father has the right idea (sit and work). I actually use a tiny pink princess chair when welding or grinding in one spot for a bit... my wife was going to throw away because the padding was torn and metal seat back bent....lol....which reminds me I need to spray bomb it black

Re: 69 Short Step

Yup that was what we are trying to achieve with this build is an old school 60s or 70s era look. And we are doin little subtle things to achieve that with the engine, the wheel covers, and hopefully some fat whitewall tires.
