Thanks...I will go over to your build thread and see if I can find some pics of the box. BTW, we have a second build coming up after this one is finished. My kid wants to do a Cummins in a 58 4x4.

Re: Father/Son '58 GMC 4x4 Build

Got everything re-wired in a couple days. Decided to splurge on Auto Meter gauges and billet dash. Figured I better make a pigtail for easy removal of the cluster.

Raptor lined under all the fenders, inside bed/tailgate, floor pan, behind seat and steps. It's a great product.

Man that truck sure looks nice . I wish I had the patience and skills to do body work like that . That was the big appeal to my truck . If I went with the old shop truck theme it didn't need paint . Keep up the good work. What wheel tire combo is going on it ? Did you get your steering worked out?

Thanks! I think I'm going with the Mickey Thompson MTZ 35/12.5r17 on mod wheels. I wish they had 35's with a little narrower section width as I like the tall-skinny look. My kid gives me grief about it though telling me it's going to look like an "old man truck'' if we do that! The Ididit chrome tilt column is going in today.

It's called Raptor Liner, bought it at a local body shop supplier. I think it was about 130 for the kit, including the spray gun. Super easy to shoot and a really excellent product. I went thru 2 kits to do everything including under the fenders.

Had a productive weekend. Got the motor fired up, no issues. Wife came running out with a big smile when she heard those open headers cackling.

Re: Father/Son '58 GMC 4x4 Build

So, I got the stereo system in. I'm happy with the Retrosound Model two. A very tight fit with the wiper motor in the way, but I made it work. Built a box over the gas tank and put some nice 6x9 speakers in it. Also, got the E-brake pedal in place, thanks to Orrie's build.

What a great looking truck and build thread!
Makes me want a red truck... hmmmm.

How did you mount the gas pedal, any more pics or info to share?
I have the same pedal but don't like where I mounted it.

Hey Thanks! That gas pedal took me some time to get located just right. I wish it could have gone a little further up, but that was about it. I had to use some stand off spacers under the pedal mount and cut the jute backing off the carpet behind it in order to get full pedal travel.

Chopped 2" off the brake and clutch pedals, going to get them chromed.

Re: Father/Son '58 GMC 4x4 Build

Recent progress; Got the seat and headliner in...very happy with them. Decided on a "Von Dutch" stitch on the seats for a little character. Got the steering shaft made...piece of cake (thanks Orrie). Also found a aluminum overflow tank for the remote brake master cylinder reservoir that worked out well. Actually drove the truck out of the shop for the first time and everything feels good. Time to put the doors together and finally get the front sheetmetal on.

Like my remote res. WAY better than the cheesy plastic on that came in the kit.

BTW, please excuse my firewall hole plugs. I sure wished I would have filled them, but at the time this was only going to be a d.d. Not anymore!

Funny, seeing it a bit better, and hearing how you did it reminds me of mounting my pedal. I also spaced it off the firewall, I made standoff bracket out of 1" aluminum bar stock and contoured the bottom to the slope of the firewall-to-trans tunnel.

I left a big loop of the braided cable between the firewall and the carb, otherwise I felt the jog the cable made from firewall to throttle lever was too tight and too short and the cable would grind against the housing - the big loop isn't much better as there is a lot of surface area but it's fairly smooth - at least I'm used to it now. I'll grab a pic this weekend.
How did you land the throttle cable on the carb?

BTW, love the upholstery and headliner!
