So...I found a 3.73 from a 88-98 for a decent price. I know I have to weld on saddles for the coil springs. I already have a super track bar.

Bottom line will this work or won't it.
Yes, this will work. Make sure you match the pinion angle to the angle of the perches on the existing axle and your good to go. As you drop the vehicle, the existing (fixed) factory pinon angle follows the vehicle down. It rotates itself in other words...Dont over think it. Just match the perch locations and angles to the factory axle and your good to go...

Thanks for the insight. I'm gonna try and get this done soon.

Re: Need info with a rear end swap from 88-98

Hey, dredging this post back up as I just got the saddles welded on. It turned out pretty good ( my welding skills were a bit rusty though). Just to be clear I have removed a 12 bolt original from a 71' and am installing a 10 bolt from a 96'

I have some questions I need answered in order to wrap this up:

1) Will the parking brake cable assembly I have in the 12 bolt work on this rear end? It looks like they will fit, but I'll ask the question anyways. Or will the ones from a 10 bolt connect to the old system? (The ones I got with the 10 bolt were cut off.)

2) What is the U-joint I need to adapt from the 10 bolt to the original driveshaft?

Re: Need info with a rear end swap from 88-98

So, I found the answers to my questions.

1) Yes, the 71' style parking brake cable will attach to the new 10 bolt. I ordered 2 new ones from my local Napa parts store.

2) I found the U-joint adapter at Napa also, they had it in stock.

I bolted the rear end in today, and so far everything went together perfectly. I am going to try to get all the misc stuff put together tomorrow if I have time.

Re: Need info with a rear end swap from 88-98

Finally got everything back together. Just went for a test drive with my daughter. It changes everything, from the way it handles, accelerates, and
drives.

Took it out on the back roads and lit it up!

Couldn't be happier! My daughter said, "daddy it feels like a roller coaster"!

Yes sir it does!

Still though, I see a 383CU 400HP/400TQ engine and a 700R4 tranny in my trucks future!

As far as parts, all I can say is it's a 1/2 ton rear end from a 1997 Chevy truck.

I think Scoti was referring to the conversion Ujoint and parking brake cable part numbers. I think you will like your choice of new power.
