Got a little side tracked over the winter. Picked up an early 50's Youngstown Kitchens metal cabinet that I converted into a workbench on wheels. Stripped it down to bare metal, single stage urethane seafoam green paint (matches my old 2 foot brake), and retrofit casters concealed behind the toe kick. Drawers are lined with toolbox drawer liner, and the top (which I am wrapping up shortly) will be MDF with a steel ribbed edge. This will be my speaker bracket/gauge cluster "workstation" holding all of the hardware, tools, and shipping materials I use to produce those parts.

Picked up these matching uppers a few weeks ago...hope to get these cleaned up, painted and hung sometime this summer or fall. I'm 41, but love this old junk!

I like your style, the cabinets, the tractor, and the Suburban. I can identify with them all. I'm curious to see how the engine conversion kit for the Suburban that you mentioned handles the steering box. Those cars were narrow in the engine compartment and the steering box interfered with most V8 upgrades. I put a 58 model 318 engine in a 53 Plymouth and I had to notch the frame and move the steering box over about an inch and a half.

The kit is designed so that the engine and trans are offset to the passenger side an inch or so. This will clear the stock steering, or so I am told. I have early A-body V8 exhaust manifolds, with the drivers side notched from the factory to clear the steering shaft. I have done extensive research on this over on the HAMB, and this combination has worked for others doing the same swap. We'll see!

Time to revive this build? I was wondering what happened next.I have eyes on a 1952 Fargo Suburban and thought your build was very interesting for me to learn a lot before I even buy that ex school bus converted sub.

I know I am planning to get one for the garage! But my wife is 17 years younger than I am and she's not yet got the "50's bite".
 So no 50's style anything in the house.
