Re: 1971 rear e-brake parts help PLEASE!!

Well, I looked at the donor today. All I got was one spreader bar and one bracket.

I've also spent over 5 hours in the last two days, scrounging through local junkyards.

I'm starting to believe these parts are rarer than unicorn teeth. I would have been better off doing a rear disc swap

LOL!!

Yup, spent more like hours, instead of minutes, going to local parts stores. Went to many, called others, checked with all the local junk yards (even tried looking up to 1987, hoping they would have the same parts), every aftermarket supplier and also checked with suppliers that sell new and old parts, hoping that the used parts suppliers would have them.

also checked parts want-ads, ebay & craigslist

I find it very hard to believe that no local yards with any 6 bolt wheel 88-98 chev trucks , 6 bolt wheel express/savanna vans up to 2001 or so , 11" brake chev / buick wagons (older) , or the local parts store , as a good parts guy should be able to find all you need.

Re: 1971 rear e-brake parts help PLEASE!!

Could not take it any more. The dorman # for the actuator bar is 21147 or 21149 , the self adjuster kits are hw2586,hw2587 , the spring on the actuator bar could be a couple different #'s - hw1352 ,hw1353,hw1336,hw1341. These numbers should fit the mid 70's 11" brake , I can't tell you 100% they fit ours , but after months of looking , you should be able to make these work , even if changing the shoes to the 70's numbers is an option. I hope this helps , I still have all the rusty origionals here , can ship them from ms around Christmas time if your parts guys still can't help - Bob

Re: 1971 rear e-brake parts help PLEASE!!

Thanks again for that info. I honestly couldn't find anything in the local yards. They are lucky to have a half dozen trucks at most. It's all Hondas and Toyotas.

I tried dorman before and I guess Im just not good with their online references, because I couldn't come up with anything.

This is why I love this forum. Sometimes it makes me feel like an idiot, but I'm OK with that if I am learning something

I just ran all your part numbers and that is the stuff that can be sourced from most of the big parts houses (Classic, LMC, NPD, Ecklers, etc).

The actual arm with the pin (that goes behind the regular brake) , that the c-clip connects to (for the e-brake) is the part that I haven't been able to find.

Not trying to "make you feel like an idiot" , I've been running a parts store well over 20 years , I have staff the same age as my kids showing me how to manipulate sites even better than I can... - just trying to help..
