[QUOTE=CC69Rat;5574807]I could do Coys, or $2800 for some Intros .. but, I'm planning to flog this truck a little. The first time it goes to Goodguys, there are some cones in the plans. Do you really drive in the rain with $3k billets? QUOTE]

<<< Has 3k dollar billet wheels and have driven in the rain Nothing happens you wash them and dry them

Make sure that you make the right descision God knows
i have been thru three sets of wheel till I finally bought what I should of bought right from the begininng. My biggest hurdle was getting over the fact of spending 3k on wheels.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

You see that big a55 house behind the truck? Yeah, .. he has a bunch o' money too.

Some of you guys may know, but I'm looking at adoption in the near future. I'm just trying to be realistic about it. If I had my way I'd have an LS3 too, but I don't have the coin to make it happen right now. I could keep the hubcaps and it would be a lot cheaper than billets ,.. but I have $1900 in big brakes, drop stuff, springs, etc. still yet to add to this truck. $1500 buckets and console, and remember I will be driving this truck some. I will have to park it at Walmart occasionally. The paint is not the best and full billets would be nice as hell I agree, but I gave $2500 for the truck. $2800 for the wheels? At what point do I stop?

.. just thinking out loud. The Racelines really set that square off, I agree. If I had his money I'd get Racelines too.

actually they were $100 less than your truck man if you can take that truck to Walmart and feel comfortable you must live in a safe town that beauty wouldnt last you walking into the store over here, not to mention the rude people that open there doors way to fast even if you park far and away they have to park next to you i actually dig the photoshop you did of your truck with the hubcaps, thats how i would imagine a dd.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Just to clarify -- I asked for opinions. It's tough to express tone on here, but I welcome any and all input. Please don't take anything I say as defensive, I'm just weighing pros and cons..

I've even considered waiting, and saving a little then buying the wheels in the spring time. It just sucks, as I want to see it dropped.

I think the hubcaps are out (for me) I like them and all, but I like the look of big brakes and something that's going to handle like it's on rails. I have everything I need but wheels and shocks. I'm really no closer than before, just saying I really like that Eagle 227 wheel. And they are $216 F/ and $235 R. I could be in the whole set for less than $1,000.

I like Streeters, Coys, and all the others I have mentioned. My main concern is salty roads in the winter and just overall drivability, no garage to keep it, and a busy lifestyle that wont allow me to wash it as often as I'd like to.

Dang .. I don't know. Bottom line, budget is becoming an issue if I ever expect to finish the stepper. I'll have two show trucks before I know it and momma is not going to allow me to get another 'Driver'. ..

I may have missed it, but have you thought about Eagle 225s? Billet look, cast price, classic 5-spoke/exposed lug, and open to see your BBK...

Chadro -

Tough decision, but the C57's are still one of my favorite wheels for the money... (from original post #224). These would have just a hint of gold sprayed on the spokes.

Just me.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Billets would make this truck though. ..and my bonus is coming soon. Keith, do you know if the rear disc will add track width? Would 6" backspacing clear the inner wheel tubs / frame rails? Remember I have a 45 on the rear too. (.5 more section width)

If I got the ones Eric has now, then got two more in the spring time? It wouldnt hurt as bad. Thats a good deal on those. It would also make a 12k truck a 15k truck.

Those wheels would add a contemporary look at a budget price. I agree that the black would die, so go with the grey.

In case you forgot, this one started that trend.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

After owning a set of billets (Intro) I would never buy them again if I was going to drive them often on gravel and in the rain. Not unless you get the coated ones (Schott wheels has some powdercoating and ceramic type coating that you never have to look at them again) or you put a SERIOUS sealer on them anyways. I agree that nothing looks better. I always wanted a set of 16 inch steelies with dog dishes (since tires are a lot cheaper and easier to get for 16s than 15s) and still would like it. I am going to keep my wheels since no one seems to want them haha but my truck will never see rain again and I plan on always keeping sealer on them. I may even air condition a room for the truck haha.

I must say JMHO the pic in post 598 is the best look I've seen yet and would leave a bunch of money for other goodies or the other truck. But you have to make it fit your style

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Id have to bag it though. .. I agree, it looks good with the hubcaps but it has to be really low to pull it off. I think I may have the final decision in the works. Ill update as soon as I can.

I have billets on my GTO that doesn't see a lot of rain. However, if you get caught driving when it starts to rain, you'll want to wash and dry them quickly. I've had my billets for 11+ years and they were polished at least three times a year for a couple of years and now I'm lucky if I do it once a year. It's a PITA and time consuming. I'd rather have them chromed than polish them all the time. Even polished, they don't shine like they did new. Brake dust, road grime, etc. from normal driving will increase the scratch potential. Heck, just washing and drying them will put fine scratches or swirls in it. You have to be very meticulous with them if you want them to keep their mirror-like shine.

If it was my daily, I wouldn't buy billets. Maybe I'm just lazy.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

New information:

When I met my wife, she had an Acura RSX. Some people may know, but my inlaws live with my wife and I. My wife is Taiwanese, but born and raised in Brazil. Long story. My father in law chartered a boat from Taiwan in 1957. Landed on the shores of Brazil and raised a family, two kids through college, etc. Didn't know the language, very little money .. you get the idea. He sold shoes out of the back of a VW Bug to make a living.

When my wife was going through school they opened a Chinese resturaunt in Brazil. they did fairly well until the resturaunt was robbed at gun point. This made her decide, she was leaving Brazil and taking her parents with her. Her sister is still there. (Rio)

So, all that said. Her parents live with us. Her mom is now driving the RSX I mentioned. In November, she is leaving the US and going back to Rio to help my sister in law. Recently divorced, two kids, and needs some help. She will be gone for 3+ yrs.

That leaves an extra car. If I put billets on my truck, it's now less of a daily driver for me. My wife and I work at the same place. Same hours, same shift. We ride together 95% of the time. When I say this truck would be a 'daily' .. it's not really an every day thing. On nasty days, I can drive the RSX.

Better idea ?? If I put billets on this truck, it takes it up about 10 notches in my opinion. You guys know me. .. if I can work out a deal, I'll do it. I'm trying to buy the ones Eric has for sale. I know they're 6" backspacing but I have other connections to make them work We're only talking about 1/4" or so. Remember, the big brakes on the back might (?) change the rear track width a little? Also, I'm replacing the wood in the bed. I could also trim a little off the wood to add clearance to 'tuck them a little more.

Stay tuned.. I love my wife! (HER IDEA!)

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

All kidding aside, she is cool man. To let me have $20k + wrapped up in TWO trucks that I don't really need? She is pretty understanding. And to put up with me and my indecisiveness, I know I'm driving you guys nuts .. I just can't decide. I know, as soon as I pull the trigger I'll find another option.

I have my other console on the parts section I was going to put buckets in my stepper but I saw another truck with leather I really liked. Using 2005 Dodge Ram buckets, and I will probably restore another console and wrap it in leather to match the seats. Sort of a one off thing, .. but ..

In short, as soon as I sell this other console, I'm going to buy the Billet Specialties from Superfly. If I could choose any wheel, any manufacturer the Heritage would be the wheel.

I hear you Chad on the indecisiveness, I have the same problem with wheels. I flip flop everyday on whether to sell mine and buy different ones. You just need to do what's going to make you the happiest. Those BS heritage wheels Eric is selling are awesome, if I had the money they would already be on my truck. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

It's official, I am going to drop a check in the bank today at lunch and get some money over to Eric. I'm doing the Billet Specialties. I got a ridiculous buy on them and I personally feel like it's a no brainer now that I have the other car as an option if needed.

By going with the Heritage wheels, they (to me) look like a cross between the Intros and salt flats, plus my brakes will show a little.. and as far as residual value in the truck if I ever need to sell it the wheels take it into another price bracket. With the buckets, complete new interior, new bed wood and polished strips, new paint in the bed .. etc. Yes, absolutely the wheels will set this truck off. Money invested will be easily returned. I got off to a good start with this truck and all things considered (even the billets) I will have about $11,500 in it when finished. (just not painted)

The only problem is I will need to wait until my bonus hits in early March to get the fronts. I am going to put the rears upstairs with my other stuff and just hold them till sping. That will give us time to finish the bed and interior, put the drop on and detail the frame rails.

done deal.. Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Very much appreciated fellas. Dad is good friends with Mike Hudlow, you may have heard of Hudlow Axle (?)

With these wheels having 6" BS, I might be slightly too far inboard. This is very much fixable with a .25" wafer spacer behind the wheel. If it takes it, I'll get Mike to cut some specific for the rear end width after I get the discs on it, etc. I'll make it sit nicely in the wheel well. I'd rather it be 6"BS than 5". I'd rather it tuck under the wheel lip.

IF I need to, I can sell my 295/45/20 and go back to 295/40 for slightly less section width I just like the look of slightly more sidewall .. but we'll see how it goes. I could also offset the wood in the bed a little if I needed to .. just not sure how much room there is between the inner fender edge and the tire on the typical 295/40 and 5.5" BS setup? Do I have any room there at all?
