Good suggestion on the skew driver. I've never seen one before.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

pulled the seat and carpet for the windlace

checked the wipers, sure enough the replacement e clip had gone missing

when I pulled the carpet though I found the original

the new wiper motor has really made life hell. not only the fitment of the system but the quad gauge wouldnt sneak past the bigger motor. luckily I trimmed the choke bowden and it just squeaked by.

the wiper motor also wouldnt let the circuit board fit, so I had to remove the center bar between the speaker and the ashtray. but it worked great

dash repaint came out nice

lights look purple in pictures but they are white.

and they even dim, since they are wired in parallel with the incandescents

I was busting all day so I didnt get pictures of the other stuff I did, I closed off the heater outlet and made an air driector out of kydex. I even routed a defroster hose to the drivers defroster, it just barely blows but should be enough. I put the wiper switch in the old headlight switch spot, the instructions said that it would fit in the stock location but I tried every which way and it doesnt. I also put in two 12v ports, one where the original cig lighter was and another where the original ignition switch was. I think that is a nice touch, really gets with the modern feel. changed out the broken gas pedal. I did other stuff but I will be damned if I remember.

talked to the buyer again, he will be on the road in the morning, expect him late sunday! lots left!

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

thanks I am closing in on it.

dash reassembled. you could see the vomit of wiring behind the speaker because the screen was missing, so I improvised, painted a couple scotchbrite pads black and glued them in. also had to improvise since there is no access from the bottom for the center dash pieces. the bottom bar is a slip fit to the middle piece, the middle is screwed to the dash under the top bar, and the top bar is velcroed on. very clean, doesnt move.

kydex made a nice 3" deep glovebox, enough for registration.

all the panels on and everything buttoned up.

new valve cover gasket. the old one had squirted out at the bottom corner, it was leaking freely. I could have reused it but I like felpros

quick jaunt for some gas. the filler is acting up again, gotta be the evap valve.

with new door seals and windlace the only noise on the highway at 70 mph was a small vacuum leak and the drivers door handle rattles a little. imagine a 49 chevy truck where you can hear the door handle rattling at 70mph! looking forward to tomorrow.

Must have it buttoned up pretty tight if all you hear is a door handle rattle. Very nice.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

well the trucks still here. The guy said on the phone "I will give you $X if you do the wipers and seals and finishing stuff and come in a week" so I spent all week doing the work. he came yesterday and said "well I will give you $X-Y" and I said no, negotiations were over last week. He called again this morning after staying in a hotel and was still at X-Y. on the bright side, he will get dynamite MPG towing the empty trailer home. too much fast n loud viewing I guess.

before you jump all over me, he wanted essentially a 20% discount for cash (well I wont take ketchup packets) and for driving all that way. he offered less than the 47 GMC sold for, and that truck had 178k miles (this one is 79k) and didnt have a single thing done to the interior, cracked glass, old seals.

on the really bright side, I got the garage cleaned up from my week of frenzy.

Heck hang on to it until show season, throw it in the "For Sale" Corral and if things out there are like they are around here, you'll sell it for a premium.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

I hate dealing with buyers. Its amazing to see what some stuff brings vs. others. I have saved tons of ebay sales, so I can show people the market and why I value something at the amount I do. They often overlook all the little things and even big things. they might find one or two little things they don't like and think its a deal breaker. The cash discount could be worth it in the long run, you are either letting him get a deal or your paying that amount to uncle sam if you claim a profit on your rig. Maybe you'll enjoy the fruits of your labor for a while, until some non tv watcher comes through.

Sorry to hear your deal fell thru. I agree with what others said, the deal was set already, so it is on him. Good luck with the sale.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

I cant really believe he called me in the morning with the exact same offer I had emphatically turned down last night. Cest la vie. I think he may have been a flipper trying to protect his end. He was hung up on the dumbest things, like the bed being a little lower than normal, which I fixed this afternoon for about $10 (1/2" spacers, bolts). He kept saying how it was a hundred dollars an hour to fix stuff, so that worked out to $210, not 20%.

pictures at the innovation campus at my alma mater! new concrete, empty streets!

still, driving 3200 miles for nothing, I just dont get it. especially with gas prices today

(we have a lot of wind in kansas)

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

3200 miles one way! sure it wasn't hotroddirty trying to lowball you and turn right around and plop the truck on ebay and get 30k for it? I'v seen him buy a truck for 19k and change a couple minor things and yep its listed at well over 30k. Its very hard to find the "right buyer" took me 6 months and if I wasn't so invested in it I woulda waited longer. Like I said on your 41' thread. Wouldn't hurt to keep a shop truck and lure in more biz and enjoy it. sell another one down the road or wait for that ripe buyer!

The truck turned out incredible! I may have someone interested in buying it. Please pm me your asking price. I've already told my friend about your builds. He's going to check them out tonight. After he does that I'm sure his wallet will fly open lol

henry I meant 3200 round trip, 1600 one way. thats a lot of driving with an empty trailer.

he had to be a flipper, the more I think about it.

cjcolby I have the truck listed in the classifieds here

hate flippers esp with something like this. Its not like a divorce sale or something where someone needs to dump something quick. I can't stand people that want to make a good chunk of money doing very little. I take pride in saying yah I built that, or I put in mad hours to make money or a project etc. what state did he come from?

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

I see this kind of thing all the time watching kijiji (like Craigslist), it pisses me off. I'll see a good deal on some old iron, then see the same car a few weeks later listed in a different city for several grand more, usually still on the trailer in the pictures. It really sucks for those people that really want these things because we end up paying a real premium for them. Anyway, I know I've said it before but the truck looks great.

yeah I have to get some thicker skin is the message haha. I went through this selling the last two trucks and it wont be over just because I want it to be.

I remember the jerk on the 65, 'whats your bottom dollar?'
"I am negotiable but I wont magically take half off."
'Haha no I wouldnt do that"

offers 55% starts yelling "I KNOW THE MARKET ON THESE TRUCKS" when I chuckle and say no.

on the "for sale corner" of my driveway.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

only one more update to this thread coming, I did a bunch of little stuff lately. I changed out the blocks because when I raised the bed slightly the truck looked a little tall in the back so I went to a straight block and it brought it back down. I thought I needed the angle block but the pinion angle is better without it.

I also raised the center running board mounts, sure a spacer would have done it but I didnt like that from a certain angle you could see the mount under the running board. also, I still had 1/8th inch chevy lean so I pulled the springs and trimmed just another hair. good thing because the upper shock mounts were cracked, so I put new poly ones on. and the serpentine belt squeaked a little so I put a new one on. finally installed the new door handles and got the windshield center bar installed. I dont know if it was the new rubber, but only one screw would grab, so I welded studs on the bar and used cap nuts inside instead, looks great and now no leaks! drivers door handle anti rattle done too, used a piece of foam around the shaft and the cardboard piece that comes with the door panels. did some touch up stuff, wish I could wash it but its still in the 20s temp wise.

I wanted to see what it would be like to warm it up inside so I set the heater to high and started the truck, after 10 minutes it was so warm and toasty inside. thanks to the guy who drove so far I guess, it never would have warmed up without the door seals and windlace replaced.

Thanks, its sold. the only update left is a picture on the car hauler!

I am going to miss this one. a years worth of saturdays it seems. everything is exactly how I would want it. driving it feels like the most natural thing in the world.
