Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Got a new toy today..... 20gal air compressor. Picked up a pressure washer this weekend....both will get plenty of use. I'll need a larger compressor down the road, but this will get me by for now.

Also have the new white walls getting mounted/balanced tomorrow, so pics tomorrow on them.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Heres the new compressor. 2yr warranty with Home depot. Will look at something around 80gal once the shops up, but this should get by for now.

I have a couple of buddies who are running this brand and didn't hear any complaints.

This one is 20gal 1.5hp 150max psi and 4scfm@90psi

How loud is it? I have a 33 gal Craftsman upright I bought in 2000 that is so loud that I have to wear ear plugs when it's on. I am looking for a new one.

It was dark by time I got home last night. I plan to hook it up tonight and I can let you know then. Picked up a 100' of hose too. That should cover any distance I need.

When I get the barn done and sealed it, I plan to hard plumb lines in to access in the different stalls.

It sounds like you might have an oilless compressor. I bought one of those from Sears years ago thinking the oilless design would be good for painting cars. It was so loud I couldn’t stand it. Ear protection was an absolute must. They sure never mentioned that feature. When we moved into town I got rid of it because I didn’t want the noise level irritating the neighbors (or me either)!

It was replaced with a Husky 80 gallon model which had a nice deep thumping note to it. 10 years later it died, and since I no longer paint cars, I replaced it with a Husky 30 gallon upright, 2 hp model. It’s the quietest compressor I’ve ever owned. We have an attached garage, and when I'm in the house I can't even hear it running.

It is an oilless unit. I'll know how loud it is tonight when I fire it off. I've got tons of headsets if needed from running chainsaws for years. Can always get an extra 100' of hose if its real loud...haha. Glad to hear you like the Husky 30gal that you have. I looked at one of their 80gal units yesterday.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

The 80 gallon was the nicest compressor I ever had, especially for painting or sanding. It would actually catch up and stop running while in use with high flow tools. The last time I tried to use it the pressure relief on the motor failed and it tried to start against the pressure in the tank and literally burned up the motor. Fortunately I was standing right there when it happened.

A new motor or repair was almost the cost of the new smaller compressor so I let the big one go as I just didn't need one that large any longer. It's also nice the new 30 gallon model is 110v and portable.

Are you going to install them now, or hold for later like the seat? Looking forward to seeing the tires mounted on the wheels either way. That's going to be a striking combination!

Portable was my biggest thing for now until the barn is up. I'll hard plumb the walls once I get to that point with a larger unit. This one will get me by for now. I can do smaller painting projects with it and a few air tools I'd like to use.

I'll wait until I do the disk swap. Which won't be too far off. Last weekend was a rat race, so maybe this weekend I can get the old ball joints out, crossmember cleaned/painted and new ball joints in.

But I'm getting much closer. Talked with my painted last night. Will do the interior 1st, so I can get the glass reinstalled. Then start on the exterior.

1st pic of the rims & white walls. I'll get the blue film off tonight and get the trim rings & hub caps on. Then some more pics.

My buddy runs a tire shop in downtown Fayetteville and they only charged me $36 to mount all 5 tires and balance them. I like the weights on the back side so you can't see them.

Yeah, the trim rings and the 61-63 deluxe caps. I think I have a set for the other 63 too, and 2 for the trailer.

Nice color combo, the whitewalls, the dark blue rims and throw in some stock chrome caps and beauty rings, going to be nice.
My body and fender guy built a lean-to on his garage to keep the noisy compressor and furnace outside the working area. Mines inside and I turn it off when painting, not only because of the noise but also it blows air around and kicks up dust when running.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Heres some better pics...one inside and one outside (starting to get dark). The trim rings and caps really make them pop.

I might try a different brand trim ring. These are off the 63 and are very tight, but they seem just a hair looser on these rims.

i ordered them from bowtie bits around 3 years ago....stainless steel. i prefer them over the chrome ones....can always put these on a buffing wheel. think i spent around $100 for 5 shipped

Heres a link to them. http://www.bowtiebits.com/store/stor...Category_ID=78

They do guage restoration also. Ive used them quite a few times with excellant service and parts.
