Very nice project! Is that a 39/40 Ford I spy under the cover in the background?

Re: 68 Four door build

Has any one seen the 71 short bed running around out here in California with corvette front and Rear suspension , big block with a pro charger on it? Well that was one of my projects I built and had to sell because of the money thing, I will try to find some pictures of it. It was crazy fast and handled very well. I made it out of a one owner 30 k mile old man camper truck.

Re: 68 Four door build

I kinda think its too cool in its present condition to cut up too, i would think that for the parts you need a non running (non 4by) beater would work just as well. Too many folks dig the 4x4 as it is.
but hey, you gotta do what u gotta do. I've often pondered the crew cab idea too but i'm decent at designing stuff but i don't weld. Good luck with your project, i'm guessing that you will take the 'burb under the knife....

Re: 68 Four door build

Just curious,... wouldn't it be easier to build a 4-door crew cab out of 2 truck cabs.
(using burb doors up front)
Then it would have the correct roof profile.

Re: 68 Four door build

OK, I'm curious, I have allways been under the impression that Chevy didn't build a 1 ton 4x4 in 67-72. Is this really a 3/4 ton with hub spacers and dually wheels or were some built by a contractor like the NAPCO trucks? Also that Longhorn looks very rust free, I may be interested in the bed, I'm in northern AZ. I can't bare thinking of that Longhorn being torn apart, I think I'm gonna be sick.

well either way you would need the front doors/rear part of door jamb and the rear door hinge/jamb area and while u are at it the complete sub 3rd rear door jamb minus the top squared off corners. The hard part will be making the 4th door front hinge area, a mirror of what Chevy did on the third door. So you kinda need a donor sub, and one thats not rusty, say a front end cruncher. But i guess there are many ways to skin a cat...

Re: 68 Four door build

the burb is a 3/4 ton with a dually setup. I bought the truck from Tom and dont need the bed or front clip. I am building a 65 C20 and needed a better chassis with disc brakes and good motor and trans. PM me if you are interested in buying any parts

From what I've seen done on this board and the thoughts I've had about this, the building a crew out of 2 truck cabs will be a lot more work. The roof still needs reworked and it'd take 3 truck roof skins to do it due to the curvature in them. Plus building all the structure and everything else. There's a lot that goes in to it.

Yea Tom that's the first truck that comes to mind, that thing was insane. I figured this was you when I saw this thread cause Mike told me you were gonna build a 4 door.
If you're wondering, this is Tremayne.
