Re: 49 chevy 1433
I tacked together a frame, corners were cut a 45 degrees, clamped everything together and made sure the box was sqaured. Then I drilled the bolt holes in the sides and welded the corners inside and out. Then i cut a panel out of 16 gauge and used the big spot welder at work to weld it into the frame.

Re: 49 chevy 1433
I know its been quite some time since I have posted anything, but that doesn't mean the truck is forgotten. I work on it when I can but life happens a lot.
I made a new toe board panel out of 16 gauge steel. Seemed like the best way to get rid of all the holes.

Re: 49 chevy 1433
I also took care of the firewall. I cut out the recessed area of each side leaving about a 5/8" flange then driledl 5/16" holes that I plug welded from the inside. I will finish the seam with a small bead of seam sealer on the outside and then a little more generously on the inside.

The firewall looks good. I may borrow that for the 54.

Re: 49 chevy 1433
I like the firewall! much nicer than a bunch of patches.
the cragars look sweet too, they look great on these trucks.

Re: 49 chevy 1433
Thanks guys I pretty happy with how the firewall turned out, and it was relatively quick and easy.

Re: 49 chevy 1433
I bought some wheel studs for my rear end and mounted my Cragars this weekend. Feels good to have a roller again.

Re: 49 chevy 1433
I also cut the hole in my new toe board for the steering column. It is a little lower and to the left than the original column.

Re: 49 chevy 1433
I am also going to fill the notch in the dash and center the wheel over the gauges. The old column mount holes are ripped out anyway.
