Thanks! I'm not a huge fan of mustangs either but I'm happy with the way that one turned out.
The truck should be back out soon just waiting on a few powdercoat pieces. Hows your projects comming along?

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

Update time! I'm getting close to finally getting the truck back on the road!!
I still need to finish putting glass in , building door panels, and a few more odd and ends but its all most there.
I changed the grille to a 69-70 because I think it looks a little cleaner. I still need to make the filler for the center to cover up marker light holes and I'm going to powder it black to tie it all together.
The blue steering wheel will be going away soon. I built a new insert for the gauges to get rid of the center hole and I built a cup holder to hold the occasional adult beverage.
The firebird marker lights worked out pretty well. I smoked the lights to make them look the same color when the are off. I would suggest adding some more clearance to the bezels if anyone else tries this because all the clearcoat makes thing a little tight.
Hopefully the 20's and 22's will be here soon cause these 15's are killing me.
I also will be changing the mirror heads on the stock mirrors to round ones, I'm not a big fan of the rectangles. I will post pics of how I do it, I'm not sure if anyone has tried it yet on theses trucks.
Anyway thats enough of me rambling let me know what you think!

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

I ordered an unwelded tank from boyd welding and welded it up.
I moved the mounting flanges the whole way to the bottom to move the tank up to get more ground clearance and I added some additional baffling to try to help fuel starvation under acceleration.
When I moved the tank up I had to cut the bed floor out and it ended up about flush with the floor.
The second picture is the ground clearance with the truck laid out.
I still plan on building wheel tubs and covering the center. I will probably leave the tank exposed and trim out the edges with some aluminum.

Here's the thread with all of the info: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=339524
They use 73-87 firebird marker lights and gregfull makes bezels for them to fit better in the stock marker light holes. The only mod you have to do to the truck is cut the stock marker light mounting tabs off of the truck. I just smoked the lenses to make them look the same because they are amber and red to start.

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

I've been slowly making progress on the truck. I've been driving it for a few months now and I haven't been able to stop long enough to work on it! The body shop still has the tail gate so thats why it's missing in action. I got the bumper mounted and built a not so legal plate box to keep the plate from dragging on the ground.

Finally got wheels! They are billet specialties SLC 62
20X8 1/2 with a 5 1/2 bs front
22X8 1/2 with a 4 1/2 bs rear
Tires are yokohama prada spec x
255-40-20 front
285-35-22 rear

The rears are about as tight as you can get to the outside without rubbing. I probably should have went with a 5" bs in the rear to be safe but it works as is. I went with an 8 1/2 in the rear because the 10 would have only left me an inch to the air bag.

Enjoy let me know what you think!

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

Here's a few pics of how I did the mirrors. I basically cut the square mirror off and ground the left over smooth then drilled and tapped it to 1/4-20 to use the older style round mirrors. The key is to not drill too deep because it will cause the factory riveted piece to get loose.

I also added a pic of the filler I made to cover the marker lights in the 69-70 grille and a few of the interior. I changed the steering wheel to a 62 impala and started building the door panels out of abs plastic. They still need to be foamed and covered.

Beautiful truck, nice mods. The seat looks nice and comfortable. I like the mirror mod. Probably able to see out it without the vibrations.

Anything coming up? Thinking about going to the VGP this weekend.
Nothing big that I know of. We will be doing some more good guys shows this year and then sema. We will probably do some more local stuff and we usually do the church on friday when we are in town but thats about it.
