Re: LFD's Shop Toys

Looks great as usual. Maybe you could make the 4th door and all templates for the Suburbans and offer them as a kit, .

Also, will the suicide doors allow you to have a full roll up glass on the back door?

You guys do great work. The crew cab looks great, that's what they are supposed to look like. Not that stupid ugly conversion that was done back in the time these trucks were made.

Nope!

No they will not. The rear of the door glass must slide forward to clear the jamb of the door it self. This is why the vent window of a front door is slanted like it is and with these being back doors with a 90* front post (after it is finished) their will be no room for this to happen. If I really wanted one piece windows I am sure I could make it work but I am not a fan of 1pc in these trucks. Plus I am going for a factory look other than the missing B post.

Thanks and I agree with you that they should have been done this way.

If you don't do the 4th door on yours while it's apart, you'll regret it...

Re: LFD's Shop Toys

Out of pure curiosity have you put much thought into legroom for the rear seat? I was kind of trying to visualize a crew cab layout after looking at the rear seat in my burb. I would guess pre-stretching cab and door modification would be the best time to adjust for more legroom. Maybe this was all verified with the other crew you worked on. Any idea how the crew interior size compares to current crew models?

I'm just soaking this all in ! Awesome work

This brings up a good point and this is one reason why I have not cut the front of the rear doors yet. I am planning on the same size as a burb for rear doors but I will be checking a few newer crews for fitment. I will be using new crew cab seats and that will give a few more inches since the seats are not as thick. I will also compair leg room with over all looks since I will not be the one sitting in the back!

Re: LFD's Shop Toys

A few updates, I got the drivers side front door strike made today and the first part of the B pillar hinge mount spot welded in place. Their is still another 10-15hrs to get this door opening ready for a door. Then that door will take as much time as all the work so far has taken me.

It was a great donor truck, I really needed the bed off of it. A lot of the parts from the truck are now scattered around Kevins yard. And yes it looks like the small window 67 will meet the same fate. Some must die for others to live and prosper.

If I'm seeing correctly, the 'custom' striker will not be serviceable. Any worries (not that they require frequent re-aligning)?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Maybe I am missing what you are asking. This striker is the same as the others. The nut plate is loose in the jamb but has two tabs to keep it from falling down while still being able to be adjusted like all others. The strike has the spring loaded thingy like the others and is rivited in like the others as well. Does this make sence or am I still missing what you were getting at?

I missed the tabs to keep it mobile yet 'in place'.

Re: LFD's Shop Toys

Thanks but progress will slow for a bit now. I have a few more shop jobs in to get going on. Over the weekend I finished up the last crew cab I did a year ago and it will leave Tuesday. Then today another board member brought his 70 2wd Blazer up for a few suspention mods. I also might have another 2wd Blazer comming in this week for an engine driven comp. Then I have the 41 chevy PU in the shop as well. Last but not least it looks like I will have another board members truck comming in for the full bottom half rust treatment in a few weeks.

I will be collecting parts for my crew cab as these are being worked on so their will be some progress but not the kind you all like to see.

I feel sorry for you guys out there with those crappy cabs to start with. Such a shame to start out with such rusted cab floors. lol Will be really sharp. Excited to see this bloom into a sweet truck.

Re: LFD's Shop Toys

Again no real progress but more parts! Today I scored a set of 67 step side fenders that have never been painted or installed. They are in great shape but if they are truly NOS 67 steps I may find another set to cut up for my dually fenders. I will get pics Sunday when my wife gets home with the camera.

Cameras back!
