Re: Daverods 52

Trying to get everything air tight. Broke a airhose, a fitting, pinched a front airhose. Ordered new hoses and a fitting. One of the new hoses is blocked. What a pain. Ordered 2 new hoses, one for a back up. Used pipedope when I redid all the fittings seemed to work much better than tape.

Re: Daverods 52

good call on the pipe dope. good call on the extra hoses. I love having extras of things. I try and have double alot of tools even. But I have two living locations so it is nice to have that. Can't wait to see some test runs man.

Plug wires- need 90 at both ends. See if I can make something
Rad. hoses- lower one is going to be a pain.
Rad. outlet on bottom cut and moved down.
fitting for gas line.

Re: Daverods 52

Spare parts are good, when I go to the boonies I have a box with spare alt, starter, fuel pump and dist. Also duct tape, wire (bailing and electrical) JB weld, clamps, lots of tools. In 40 years have only had four incidents, brake pad failure (clamped the line), electical wiring from the switch to the starter and coil shorted out (used tail light wire to patch it up to get home), dumped a battery, had to use stream water luckily it recharged enough to get started and had to replace a fuel pump when i starved out on a hill and broke the diaphram.

For the rad hoses make a mock up with a hanger or welding rod and take it to the store. If the counter guy is sharp you will walk out with something close.

Re: Daverods 52

I'll have to remember those fixes. Someone said their fuel pump went out so they took a coffie can of gas and ran a hose to the bottom of it. He had the wife hold the can out her side window and they lived lhappliey ever after.

Re: Daverods 52

dang 1 incident every 10 years aint bad. daverod. see if you can take your prebent wire in the back and look for something. Heck I see the parts guys soo much they know me, so it's usually ok to go in the back and look for stuff.

The rod is looking good. Looks like someone already called shotgun for the first ride.

What are you going with for rim/tire setup?

Right now I just have stock s10 rims and tires off my horse trailer.I still havent made up my mind on whitewalls and 8x15's. Or somthing like 20" smoothie centerlines. I know what I really want but what I can afford is a different thang. Still need some spacers for the front. The rear is tight.1/4"

Re: Daverods 52

daverod,

here is a pic when I was going to run the ranco valve and OG heater. My valve leaked and so did my heater box, so I just got an aftermarket 3 speed heater. I can send you a pic of it if you like, but it was like 200 bucks for the kit. Anyway, here is the valve, I believe the hose closest to the firewall on the valve comes from your intake aka hot, then it flows through the valve and out the hose (second port on valve) to the heater, then from heater (should be colder by then, back to the water pump. I looked off of my 54' truck and that is how it was run I believe, so I ran mine the same way, but never checked it cause both the valve and heater box leaked.

Re: Daverods 52

I'm hoping my stuff won't leak. It cost more to rebuild the stuff than a new one. ie rad core 170. rebuild controll valve 50. If nothing leaks its free.I was thinking the valve would be one the other side of the wall?

See your famous and you did'nt even know it. The pictures you took really helped. That's whats great about the internet you can find out how to do just about anything. A lot of times I just use this site as a place to store pictures of stuff I like.

Pretty cool! Haha i haven't looked threw the entire thread yet, but are you running spacers on your front clip? If not how far from the fender lip is the outer edge of the tire?

Re: Daverods 52

Yeah I like reading threads like this one since im debating on using the s10 frame i have or if i should just spend the time boxing and clipping the stock one. Both are in excellent shape, its just seems cheaper and smarter to use 50 year newer technology.

Re: Daverods 52

I just decided to roll with the s10 chassis. That way i can go to the local pars store and buy what i need, and cheaper. Plus im an s10 guy anyway. Know them like the back of my hand. Makes the most sense for me. Daverods is exactly what im doing minus the plates and interior. I love logging in and seeing a new post haha. Saved almost all the pics to reference back to.

Re: Daverods 52

Thanks Guys. I think the s10 is the way to go. Once you've done it once it would be so easy to do it again. Doing it the first time is the hard part. That and the money part. Just thinking about what to do is hard.Doing it is the fun part. Well ,buying new parts is pretty fun too. Ordered some plug wires with 90's on both ends. Straight ends would work on all but one plug.

Went to Autozone and rented a oil pump primer. Got my new wires put on. Just bought a cheap gage and a tube kit so I can read my oil presure. Maybe I'll go get some gas.
