Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well buddy had his first road trip sat. in about 3 years. I drove about 100 miles. All at 60-75. Man it went perfict. 0 vibrations an any speed, ran smooth, plenty of passing power and hill climb power. The efi learned a lot too. I had never drivin it at that speed for more then a few mins befor. The wideband gauge is like rock steady now. On the hiway it used to go to 12 to 1 when i accelerated up a hill in overdrive now it prety much stays still. Moves a little then goes strait to where it needs to be. Only use a 1/8th tank each way. Not sure how many mpg that is but it is great for my brick at that speed with all 4 windows down. Love my new engine. Befor it stuggled to keep speed on road trips. Now i just bearly have to push on gas peadle. Could not ask for more.

Awesome news. Have you talked to member My4by2 about exhaust options? I know he has a 4x4 square with 6.0 and headers...

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

If you just buy one thing at a time it is pretty cheap. Befor the efi it was less then 5 grand. And it can be done for way way less. Factroy efi and carbed is about the same price if depending on what the engine comes with. Some people have done it for under 2000 bucks.

The 15 mpg can be had for way less then i got it. If you shop around you can find a hole pull out motor with ecm and harness for what i payed for the EFI. That was not what i wanted to do at firtst or now. It is probaly the best way to go if you want to drive it tons.

Yeah that makes sense to go that route. I'll have to look around and see what I can find when Im ready to swap out my engine. My goal for the truck is to build it for backcountry camping and the like, so I want the gas mileage to get back into areas without worrying about runnin outta gas! haha

What truck do you have? I will consider 550-600 for full lenght headers that WILL fit not may fit. If you have anything but a 73-87 everyone and there mom makes a set. I guess we just dont have the interest even tho we have just as many if not more swaps done. Haters all hates.

I used to go wheeling in colorado where i am frow with my burb and it would run so rich up in the mountians that no one would drive behind me. You could watch the gas gauge move in 4low. That is at 8000+ feet with a qjet on tired old 350. I sure do miss them days.

Starting with a set of 1985 K30 big block headers, a pair of LSx flanges & some 1-3/4" mandrel U-bends will run you right about $350 in materials. Probably four or five hours of fab time. They have priced the $550-$600 sets right at what it would cost you to build your own if you had to pay for prefab parts & professional labor, if a square body 4x4 LSx set existed.

Someone with access to a water jet, laser or CNC plasma to make the LSx flanges and could weld the tubes together themselves could make their own set for under $250.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Ole burb out ran a 08 1500 chevy today. Buddy from works truck. I pulled along side him at about 30 and he punched his dropped to second and i droped mine to 3rd and punched it and he started half lenght ahead and i pulled him right in. Buy 65 i was just about a lenght ahead. Ole burb didnt even hit 5 grand. Think it got to 4500. It does not do so good from a rolling start like that but seems like we won this time. Prob would do better from a dead stop.

That is one nice truck man. I emailed brphotrods about there midlenght headers and they still say they will not fit. I really want to find some cause i may get some stage one ls6 heads and that would not give much power with out exhast flow.

I'm keeping my 700r4 in my swap and was wondering how yours seems to be holding up? I had mine built by Phoenix Transmissions last year.

It is doing good. I can make 4th slip but that is why you are not supposed to punch it in 4th. Only did it 2 times.

I agree. No point trying to make more power without getting the exhaust upgraded to make more power first.

Who knows you may be happy with what you have for power after a good set of headers & mandrel bent 2-1/2" exhaust system and a tune to match.

If you don't already have one, this may help. Very easy to install.

I prob wont ever be happy with the power it has. That is just how i am. Dont think there is anyone here that does mandral bends for exhaust. I was going to get a 3 inch so the crushed area is more like 2.5 inch. The only thing i have left to tune is timing and i will mess with that after headers and heads.
