Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

You don't want to do like putter did and just drive the truck to the glass shop while wearing goggles? I drove a car without a windshield about 40 miles for a buddy while wearing a full face motorcycle helmet. I only got stopped by one police officer on the way. He wanted to perform a sobriety check due to it being about 20* outside. Oh and did I mention the reason the car didn't have a windshield was it had been rolled? Anywho, I like the idea of using the lower trim were the old upper 3 piece was. I had always thought that if I relocated my handle that I would do it that way myself. The truck is coming together nicely by the way. (And yeah, I really dig the old Ford!)

Now I might be doing this since the truck will be all together by next week I am hoping. When I first set out to get the glass done I did not have time to get the bed done so it was going to be not all together and with the motor, tranny and gears I have in this truck it is not fun to drive with the bed off. Just putting it in gear spins the rear tire's. Yes I know it is fun but not safe and that meens no fun with the bed off and all the rocks hitting the back of the cab and your head!

I think I have spent to many years working around SanFrancisco because now I feel that I am a Bi-Vehicular (ford & chevy) guy

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

Ok well the last few days has been very busy. I finished all the metal work on the bed and tail gate including the handle relocation kit. I recesed the lights in the bed as well. I then helped a friend modify his trany crossmenber in his 68 camero for a 700r4, went to another friends house to give pointer on body work for his dads 46 chevy 4dr and did I mention work on my own stuff as well. All the body work is done and two good cotes of fill primmer. I will block it down in the morning and paint by 2 or 3pm.
It is not perfect were the rear top body line is from shortening the bed sides but it will look very nice all the same. The bed will be line-x'd up over the top rail and the side molding still has to get drilled after paint and bed install. Here are a few pics fopr now. It was another 10hr day to get to this point.

Man, low buck has really come along.
You will have to do a write up with pics of your redneck paint booth. Gotta love it.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

Good news! Looks like I just sold my Slow Build project so that meens more room here for starters and second I will be dropping LowBuck off at the glass shop this Friday for front and back glass install, then from their it will roll down the road to the line-X shop to get the bed done and once that is dry they will push it 4 doors down to the interior shop to ge the seat recovered in a syn. leather two tone and maybe some door panels to match. Then with the left over money I will get my frame table material and the auto spit to get started on my 2wd Blazer once a few shop jobs are out of the way.
So I hope by Saturday to have the shop cleaned out and Project Trazer in the shop for the final go round. Thanks Dan for being under standing while I induldged in my truck!! The wife thanks you as well because now she will have a nice truck to steel from me to cruse to work.

Also the bed is blocked and in the booth just waiting on a spot on the tailgate to dry (small dent I missed) so I can finish up the sanding and should be in paint by 4pm today!

You just could'nt leave the cold Ca. thing our little secrete could you! Now that they know Sunny Ca. really is not all that sunny we wil be getting all them Oregon guys wanting to come back! It was bairly 40* out yesterday in my shop , but in teh booth it was a nice 70* while spraying (heaters off during all 3 cotes) then after about 2hrs of dry time I turned on all three and cookek things at about 90*+ for another hr to make sure the gloss stayed up.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

Great project, i have made printouts of your work on cuting your frame and box and am ready to do the same to my truck but was woundering if cutting my frame will keep me from getting a saftey for my truck once i finish it. Is your truck already safteyed or am i just worying to much about this and it shouldnt be a problem. I dont know what requierments for a vehicle safety here are diffrent from where you are so that might make a diffrence.

Your statement on the body line has me concerned, as I am/was planning to cut down my longbed.

From the pics the body line looks awesome, so I don't know what to think of your comment.
