Heck yeah, my bro does great work. Hey Ryan, what do you know about zinc plating in Iowa? I've contacted Barrett Plating and asked about their services.

Litew8, I used a place just off NE14th st behind chrome reflections a couple blocks. I can't remember their name. They charge by the line to dip. Everything I had done turned out great. You might call Art and see who he was using. He has been getting some stuff done lately.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Ryan, maybe it was called D&J's? I went ahead and took a few parts to Barrett's. $50 for two hood hinges, spare tire holder and two small tailgate peices. zinc black chromate plating. He said it'd turn out more of a matte black since the peices were sandblasted. Perfect

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

NE 60th, Des Moines. http://www.barrettplating.com/ They almost didn't do it, until I said I'm not looking for 'perfection'. My guess is they've had bad times in the past with auto restoration parts not meeting customers expectations. I just want the stuff protected (other than paint) and somewhat near stock looking.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks cheby! The cool manager at Barrett Plating changed his mind and only charged me $40 (instead of the quoted $50). I told him I'll send pics of the parts installed when finished. A couple pieces had scratches, but no biggie. I can probably shoot them with Zero Rust to conseal well. Otherwise, they're zinc plated protected now. I also put the air vents back in. Gas tank almost installed.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Great job on the weather stripping. I think I'll switch mine back to stock type later on when it's closer to driving.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks. We'll see tomorrow if the weather strip stayed put.
Mike, I wouldn't mind deleted some of the paint and muffler comments mid-way through.
It'd clean the thread up and make it a little more neat (step by step) with the pictures and direction.
