Some updates: Ernie helped me get my son's PB chassis back together last weekend. This weekend I started breaking down the motor for the L99 to LS3 conversion (cam/valve spring swap and AFM/VVT delete) with the help of another buddy Joe. We got the cam installed and removed the AFM lifters and installed the new LS7 lifters. I also replaced the valley cover with an LS2 style, so all of the AFM stuff is gone! Then we discovered we needed to pull the oil pan in order to install the new chain guide and finish up the cam install. So I decided I would wait on that until I got the new valve springs installed and put the heads back on. I'm waiting on a valve spring tool to finish that up. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.... Any ways, here's a few pictures of the last 2 weekends worth of work.

, Not sure if it is or if I am...... Still making more progress. I got all the new double valve springs installed (hardened seats and titanium keepers - pics) and now I'm working on doing a trunion upgrade to the rocker arm assembly. While researching the LS3, this upgrade was suggested by a lot of people. Apparently the factory bearings can come apart at a high RPM. The kit was around $125, a small price for little piece of mind.....

Thanks! It's a pretty easy install that only requires a hydraulic press. All in all, it only takes about an hour to complete. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Re: 68 S/C update.....

How many engines have you built? I want to swap to an LS series engine, but don't feel like I'll ever be able to afford a pre-built engine. How hard would you say it is to build an LS? I'm a little more worried about selecting the right parts than assembling it, but overall I'm a bit intimidated.

By the way, I like what you've done so far.

Thanks, hopefully in a couple of weeks. I have some non-car weekends that are coming up, so it will slow me down.

This is my first time pulling an LS motor apart and the first time I've torn an engine down in about 20 years...... I did a lot of research on parts and you would be amazed at what videos you can find on YouTube as far as dissassembly and reassembly of these motors!

I wouldn't call this building a motor since I didn't change the crank and pistons, but it's about as close as you can get without doing that part, .

Cool! Thanks for the videos. Maybe I'll be able to source a short block, or even a long block and go from their. I'll do some more research. Thanks for the help.

Anytime! Let me know if you have any other questions. Also, I found another YouTube video series:

Thanks! I finished up the rocker trunion upgrade, nothing complicated, just time consuming doing 16 of them. Here are some pics. First two are of the old trunion and bearings, next three are the new setup.

The tree is starting to look pretty thin...... It's probably a good thing that you missed out on the crew, there was a lot of work left to do on it.....
How much room do you have between the high hump and your 6L80? Can you snap a few pictures? Thanks,

Rob
