Engine
Quote:
I did have a gigantic gray/blue cloud exhaust as I was comin' down Kellogg Hill (I-10). I went out this morning and there's no leaking oil from the rear of the engine or the oil filter seal. Since my "cheap b@st@rd homemade brand" exhaust system ends at the back of the cab, that's the reason everything was cab and bed. The droplets were vaporlike drops, so I'm pretty sure I was blowin' oil out the exhaust pipes. Dano

Re : Engine Blown
O.K. , now I gotcha .
You seem in a big hurry to yank this engine , it's always easier and faster to yank heads & drop the pan , repair as necessary , this is how GM esigned it , to be simple , cheap and fast .

Dano has been having trouble with this engine since the first Legends meet when he was not sure if it was going to start or not. He is probably fed up with it. I know that feeling well. |

I usually pull the PO motor when I buy a truck, but cash got tight. I'd like to remove the curse, start fresh, and have confidence in my power plant. I'm glad I have an engine waiting on deck...

Re: SoCal checkin' in
So after thrashing for 3 days straight alone on the 64 , pulling 2 trannys ,putting a tranny into my truck,3 different starters. I quit! I done for today super frustrated and pissed off. Dont wanna mess up my new flywheel. But after shimminv everg which way and using 3 different starterz witb the same results. I have grinding when i turn the key. I pulled the solenoid on 2 of the starters and shimmed to get proper engagement only to still have the same result. I dont know what im gonna do , not sure how much longer i can borrow the car im using. Ok rant over

Re: SoCal checkin' in
I had an old v-8 that when I took a starter that had straight across mounting holes. Everytime I would go to the auto parts store they would tell me that the starter for a v8 with a th350 needed to have the offset mounting holes. I would tell them, that is not what is on there now. One parts clerk did not believe me and told me to bring my old starter in. When I did, he confirmed it was not for a manual tranny set-up and as a matter of fact he could not even find the starter in his picture parts book. He sent me to an old skool starter rebuild place and when the old-timer there saw the starter he said, that's an old-one! (whatever that meant.) He went in the back and came out with a rebuilt starter for me, took my old one as the core. I will take a look in my stash and see if I can find that starter and maybe get a part number or pic of it for you. Maybe your v8 needs one of these types of starter.

Re: SoCal checkin' in
"hopped up",
I found the starter (on my dad's old car). Would you like to try it to see if it will work on your engine? I do need it back, but you can at least see if this is the type of starter you need. Dano

Re: SoCal checkin' in
Not staggered, but if your block has holes for a non-staggered starter it might work.

Re: SoCal checkin' in
Well been working all morning again on my truck and still no sucess!!! Im pretty frustrated !! Even made a homemade brace for he starter because i really think the starter is moving. We got it to crank a few times pretty good then filled the tranny and when i cranked it grinding again!!!!!! Had my homie come by and help today hes an aircraft mechanic and we both think that its moving we made a brace from some angle iron to try fo see if it helps. But cant get it to crank without grinding i really need my trcuck on the road again!!!!
