Re: "Rice Rocket'

Filled the truck up..Isnt the behind the seat tank supposed to only hold 16 gallons! lol

Scrapyard pictures of trucks.

I think I MAY cut my front springs tomorow to level my truck out.

I got some u bolts from VA72c10 awhile back, There is about 1" to 1.5" of thread sticking out PAST the nut. Does this mean I can make a block that thick? Where could I get the holes drilled at? I dont have a drill bit that big and they are very expensive. I asked the local machine shop they said they didnt have one that big either (If I remember right, I will call morrow).

Thanks! Gonna try to pick up some other misc things. In the meantime, Im looking for another fourwheeler project!

Re: "Rice Rocket'

nice work flipping the ATV. On the spacer blocks there are companies that sell 1/4" spacers pre-drilled you stack to your desired height (try race car supply places)...or buy 1" or 1.5" pre-drilled...probably cheaper or as cheap as getting someone to drill it or buying a bit that large...check out POL and their 15% off sale...

Re: "Rice Rocket'

I have 1.5" from Nut to bottom of U bolt threads

So I think I can squeeze a 1" block under there..

now where to get the holes drilled in a 1" piece of thick wall square tubing..

Your tubing really needs to be 2" wide.
So find 2 pieces of 1"x2" tube or solid stock 7" long.

Just curious why you want to lower the rear more,... when the front is too high already?
Plus,... when you cut those front springs, you will need to get the front re-aligned.

Re: "Rice Rocket'

I know, I will try to get an alignment saturday or friday (if they are open)

I bought $500 worth of tires, I *THINK* they said I get a free alignment? i cant remember.

I got the bjs apart now, getting ready to cut the springs, trying to determine the best way..

I almost wanna cut em 1/2 coil and try to talk my bud out of some drop spindles hes had forever lol, but I dont think hes gonna budge!

3" front drop and 4" rear (jeep springs) would look great!

(I was thinkin bout putting a block in the rear and finding some used lowering springs I occasionally haul 400-500 lbs but still want the low stance).

Thanks for the advise lowlife!!! I was talking to someone too, a 3/4" hole in 1" metal isnt gonna leave alot of strength I would guess...

2X1" solid or thick wall square tubing?

Ps, I just have jeep springs in the rear, I meant to get a tierod adjuster (aftermarket like the picture) and make an adj. trac bar and make some homeade shock adjusters) will I need to do this before the alignment???

Thanks! I got pics but will post when Im done!

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Your u-bolts should be 3/4" diameter.
I always drill my lowering blocks with a 7/8" bit.
(A little clearance will help with the install)

It's just me,... but I would get all your suspension work done, before your align the front end.
Even installing drop spindles will require an alignment.
(the toe will be way off)

Re: "Rice Rocket'

I agree with ditching the Jeep springs.
I think you'll be happy with drop springs or even rear air bags on schrader valves.

Re: "Rice Rocket'

So ya think Id be ok with:

Cutting front springs, making an adjustable track bar

And waiting on the shock relocators? (Would they afffect geometry of an alignment?)

Whats best way to cut the springs (Have access to torch but would that get the rest of the spring too hot?)

Could I cut the lowering block holes out with a plasma btw?

Yes.

The shock relocators will help "stand up" the rear shocks, so they will work, and not just pivot on the two mounting bolts.
Most rear shock relocators work with shorter drop shocks also.

Whats best way to cut the springs (Have access to torch but would that get the rest of the spring too hot?)
They use to always cut springs with a torch. Usually with the spring partially submersed in a metal bucket of water, to help keep it cool.
I would use a grinder with a cut-off wheel.

Could I cut the lowering block holes out with a plasma btw?[/QUOTE]
I would drill them.
If I had some 1x2 material,... I'd make you a set.

Are your springs new, used, or torched?

I use the formula:
1/2 coil = 1" of drop.

Cut carefully. Not too much at once.
Then you will need shorter shocks (only with a 2" or 3" drop spring,... in my opinion)

Re: "Rice Rocket'

The picture of the Edelbrock tie rod adjuster sleeve installed in the panhard bar is a great idea.
One catch.
Those are threaded with RH threads on one side, and LH threads on the other side.
Do you have a way to turn the shaft size down or thread the rod?
I would say those pieces were threaded on a lathe.
You could always weld the LH thread side, and just a thread die the RH thread side,... but you still have to turn them down to the correct diameter.
(5/8" or 11/16" depending on which sleeve you buy)

Also,... if you plan on installing drop spindles,... I would wait on cutting your springs.

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Ok, my buddy didnt wanna sell his dropped spindles and I dont NEED to buy extra things for the truck right now, So I went ahead and cut my coils. I just got it together and it looks alot better, leveled out! Going to try to schedule an appointment for an alignment friday and hopefully get the truck in there saturday! (Gonna *try* to make a adj. trac bar so I can centerup my rear axle! on frideay)

How can I make a bar to center my rearend? (already have extra stock bar to play with)

I dont have any machining tools. Maybe take it somewere? But Im wondering by the time I make one I could buy one for almost the same cost lol

I think you are on to something.
PerformanceOnLine part # ATB6572 adjustable bar is $59.99 with an extra 15% off this friday.
CPP sells them,... and so does ECE.
Most have Polyurethane bushings also.
Just saying,...
