If you're curious as to why the cover looks all "cloudy" - it's because it's still got the protective film on it so it won't get all scratched up. I do however have another one already made just in case that ever happens! May save it for shows & use one for daily driving & all.

OPINION TIME EVERYONE:

What do you guys think about me maybe adding some LED lighting inside the air box (hidden underneath the air filter or around the inside lip) & some underneath the intake plenum? Maybe some red LED's to accent the other colors on the truck. I think it'd add a nice touch without being too "over-the-top", but don't wanna come off as "import tuner-ish" either....

I was thinking LEDs as soon as I saw the clear top... but itthey will be hard to see in the day and if its dark, you're probobly not going to be showing the truck... but it would be simple, just add a swithc on the side of the box and a few LEDs inside...

Yep, that's exactly how I was when I saw it on there finally!!! No, won't be showing it at night usually other than cruise-in's the like. However I will be showing indoors on occasion & since it's such an easy & inexpensive mod that I'm going to go for it in the air box & under the plenum.

Lookin' like we're definitely gonna do those LED's for the engine bay - heck, if it turns out I don't like them I just don't have to turn them on...

Keven brought some good options though while we were on the LED discussions. He wants to run some LED lighting above each of the side steps that will activate when that door is opened up which would be really cool!

Also gonna add in some of the "under-rail" LED lighting in the bed that can be switched on & then another set in the toolbox that will come on when that lid is opened up.

Hoping he gets a good week in on the truck, but time will tell... Should have more pics again on Friday to post up.

just a thought on led in air box, what if u put led in air filter to produce a more subtle glow ? like a pc of red lava or heartbeat

Well, only issue on that is sealing the wiring coming in & any possible interference in the air flow... Thinking if we just do some strips around the inside lip & have them on some sort of dimmer that'd it give the "soft glow" I'd be after.

Well, I would say at this stage it's still a fairly "rough canvas", but surely hoping when it's all said & done that it's the "work of art" I want it to be!!!! Once Mario gets it for body work & paint it'll really start to shine!

Never fear though, I will most certainly drive it & will NEVER be a "trailer queen"!!!

Pretty sure I'm not gonna have it done for SEMA again this year, but definitely shooting to get it done & have it next year's Sacramento Autorama & as many shows after after that as I can!

Appreciate everyone's input on the whole LED issue - I was really unsure on it. Love this forum & all of the members - for advice, ideas & just plain great pics of awesome trucks!

You know, I finally just made the connection that this is the truck the guys at WFO keep talking to me about...Trevor just got done with my Eaton'd HD Ribbed 14 bolt and we are putting the final parts together for the rest of my suspension! Since your truck is such a shop hog

, they aren't going to be able to do anything on mine so I'm going to go pick it all up and do it myself in the next week or so!

Yours is looking great BTW!

I would feel bad for ya & all, but considering how long my truck has been in there & how many times it's been "pushed aside" for other projects it's a little hard to do so....

Honestly though, I do know how ya feel man (and feel bad for ya) - they're an "in demand" shop & try to accommodate too many customers sometimes trying to keep everyone happy - understand it from their end, but man it can frustrate ya!!!

If they could just clone Keven they'd be good - he basically has to do all the "real work" there - other than Alan doing the axles, the other guys just seem to be there for "busy work"....

What were they supposed to be doing to your suspension anyhow?

Oh I'm just messing around, I actually wanted to do it all myself since I have the tools and lift and shop space available!

I am just doing a simple 6" with a block/spring combo in the rear and all the steering corrections for now, I'll go full crossover eventually, but there isn't a real need on a tow rig. The rear axle is an HD Ribbed unit out of a 1999 or 2000 truck and they completely remord all perches and mounts for everything and started with clean axle tubes. Then they mounted spring and shock mounts for our trucks and threw in an Eaton LS and all new backing plates, brake parts, e-brake cables, etc.

Since the Dana 70HD in the truck now has the squared u-bolts facing down, we are doing a flip so there are no nasty threads hanging down below the axle anymore. So all new u-bolts, spring plates, etc. as well for the truck.

We are going to have to get the rear at correct ride height before we order Bilsteins, but those are quick anyway.

I'm doing the 4L80E swap at the same time, so it's going to be a long weekend!

Yeah, that's basically what they did to my rear axle except it was an '05 model. Get some of their torque arms too man, they are freakin' SWEET!!!! Only lifted mine 3" as I am not fond of high vehicles - especially with a Wife that's only 5'2"....

I am still considering the torque arms still but with how heavy the 1-ton leaf packs are in the rear, axle wrap is not an issue even with 3-4" blocks...

I've never personally driven with their torque arms attached - only seen their quality. I did however install a set of Cal-Tracs bars on my '07 Dodge Ram 3500 SRW & it made an INCREDIBLE difference to the ride quality in general!!! And despite that truck having a thick leaf pack - prior to the bars when I would dump the clutch the rear axle would "hop" quite a bit - after they went on it hooked perfectly!!! Just my experience though.

Well, the Wife went through with it finally & there it sits in my garage - the new Chevrolet Volt - plugged in even!!!

Daughter's '79 GMC project truck is in the background - will be turning some wrenches on that here in a few weeks with her!!!

You guys should be happy as hell with the Volt! I've got a buddy with one and he is the #2 MPG chart on record right now...the first month he owned it, he put 6.5 gallons of gasoline in it and his home electric bill didn't even reflect a noticeable difference! He loves it and I am considering one as well!

Sorry for not updating this sooner, but I had to travel to another base for training & was unable to get online....

Here's the firewall bulkhead set-up that Keven decided to use on my truck to make the pass-thru easier & much neater looking. It's totally water-proof once it's all bolted together & makes it very easy to separate as needed to boot!

Should have installed pics of it later this week as well.

Keven replaced some of the fuse/relay boxes to get the wiring set-up he needed as they sell them pre-wired by your needs - i.e. common ground or positive, etc.

The wiring portion is getting pretty close to completed as far as being functional - still needs a LOT of sprucing up & securing though...
